EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Indiana State golf plays its last tournament of the fall on October 21-22 in the Braun Intercollegiate at the Oak Meadow Country Club.

The last time out for the Sycamores was just under three weeks ago at the Butler Invitational where juniors
Briana LeMaire and
Yang Tai both finished inside the top 40. LeMaire finished 23
rd (+12) and Tai finished 40
th (+14) through three rounds of play.
Rosalie DiNunzio (+19),
Alana Gilbert (+20), and
Sophia Florek (+22) rounded out the starters at Butler, while
Nicole Feistl (+25) played in the tournament as an individual.
The Signs of Improvement
Continued improvement has been the name of the game this fall for Head Coach
Greg Towne's squad. Tai, DiNunzio, Florek, and LeMaire through the first four tournaments are playing with a lower stroke average than their finish from last season:
- Tai has improved from 80.5 to 75.6 (4.9)
- DiNunzio has improved from 82.3 to 78.2 (4.1)
- Florek has improved from 80.7 to 77.9 (2.8)
- LeMaire has improved from 77.4 to 76.8 (0.6)
The Sycamores as a team shot a 904 at the most recent tournament (Butler), which was two strokes off their best team total in a three-round tournament from all last season (902 at the 2023 Butler Invitational). In the Roseann Schwartz tournament earlier this season, the team shot a 298 in the second round, which tied the best round from this and last season (298 at the 2023 Butler tournament).
For the newcomers, Gilbert is the only freshman to play in each of the four tournaments this season. She averaged 82.8 in the first two tournaments and dropped down to 77.6 in the next two, a change of just over five strokes. Feistl shot a 93 in her first tournament and knocked off more than 15 strokes by her third tournament (93 to 75 [+5]), where she was averaging 86.8 through four rounds and improved to 79.0 in the next four.
Gabby Cone shaved off nine strokes from her first tournament to improve from a 91 to 82.
Last Season's Braun Victory
The Sycamores are seeking back-to-back wins in this tournament as they were victorious in the same tournament one season ago. Coach Towne took two teams – Team A won the tournament and Team B finished fifth of 12 teams.
Both LeMaire (+16) and Tai (+19) were part of that winning team, both placing inside the top 32.
Florek, DiNunzio, and
Eliza Baker also have experience on this course as the trio was part of a second Indiana State team in last year's tournament. Florek finished nine-over in the tournament to tie as the second-best finisher of all Sycamores, placing tied for seventh. Baker (+20) finished tied for 34
th and DiNunzio (+21) finished tied for 38
th.
