TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State women's basketball's
Chelsea Cain was named this week's Mark Clinkenbeard Construction ISU Student-Athlete of the Week as announced by the athletic department on Tuesday afternoon.
Cain recorded her second 20-point game of the 2023-24 season on her way to guiding Indiana State to the 66-49 win over Evansville on December 30 in the Sycamores' Missouri Valley opener. The fifth year forward led all scorers in the game as ISU won its conference opener for the fourth consecutive season.
Cain was dominant early on scoring 13 of Indiana State's first 20 points including a personal 6-0 run that put the Sycamores ahead of Evansville 20-10 early in the second quarter. She added seven points down the stretch in the second half that helped ISU hold off a late Evansville comeback attempt in the win.
The Prairieview, La. native went 28 minutes in the game and added six rebounds and three steals as the Sycamores picked up their first win at Evansville since February 28, 2020, snapping a four-game road skid against the Purple Aces.
The Mark Clinkenbeard Construction ISU Student-Athlete of the Week will be announced every Monday afternoon throughout the 2023-24 athletic season.
