TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State Athletics and the Terre Haute Catholic Charities Foodbank have teamed up, launching The Sycamore Food Drive – One Campus, One Community, One Big Impact.
Fans are invited to bring non-perishable food items or make a monetary donation to help families across the Wabash Valley leading up to the Saturday, January 31, men's basketball game against Valparaiso. Anyone who donates at the game will receive a voucher for an upper-bowl ticket to the February 9 men's basketball game against Southern Illinois.
"This initiative shows what can happen when a campus and a community work side by side,"
Nathan Christensen, Indiana State Director of Athletics said. "The need in our region is real, and so is our commitment to helping meet it. We're honored to team up with Terre Haute Catholic Charities Foodbank & Sycamore Campus Food Pantry. Thank you to our fans for stepping forward to support this important cause."
The initiative between Indiana State Athletics and Terre Haute Catholic Charities Foodbank will support both the Foodbank and the Sycamore Campus Food Pantry during the season.
"For more than 40 years, Terre Haute Catholic Charities Foodbank has served our neighbors throughout west central Indiana whenever the need exists," Jessica Murphy, Development Manager, Terre Haute Catholic Charities Foodbank, shares. "Food insecurity exists each day – not just during the holidays. This food drive will help keep shelves stocked and create hope moving into the new year."
Food insecurity is prevalent across our communities. In Vigo County alone, more than 19,000 people lack consistent access to enough nutritious food to live an active and healthy lifestyle, including more than 5,000 children.
