TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State competed in its final home meet of the 2022-23 season Saturday, posting 13 wins at the Sycamore Open at the Gibson Track and Field Complex.
Included in those 13 wins were first-place finishes in five of the six men's field events the Sycamores took part in. Women's field events also accounted for four wins, with the Trees taking the top spots in the men's and women's long jump, triple jump and pole vault.
A pair of Sycamore athletes also set top-10 program marks at home, with
William Staggs moving up to second all-time in the pole vault and
Brandon Peck cracking the top 10 in program history in the hammer throw.

- Ryan Golliher – shot put (third, 14.71m/48-03.25), hammer throw (third, 52.68m/172-10

Sprints/Hurdles
While most of Indiana State's sprints and hurdles group was either at the Drake Relays or had a week off from competing, the Sycamores still had a solid showing from the group competing at home.
Nyla Jones was one of two winners from the group, as she took top spot in the women's 100m at 12.04, with
Kamille Gaskin-Griffith right behind her at 12.19. Jones finished second in the 200m with a time of 25.50.
Jhivon Wilson was the lone Sycamore in the men's 100m, coming in second with a time of 10.86.
Maria Biskopstoe was the other winner for the Blue and White from the sprints and hurdles group, placing first in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:05.27.
Brendan Rogers came fourth in the 400m with a time of 50.44.
Distance
Sara Skaff had the headline result for the Sycamore distance group that competed at home, using a late surge over the last 200 meters to win the 1500m with a time of 4:49.51.
Kyra Young also earned a top-three finish with a time of 4:52.05, while
Emerson Fayman had the top result on the men's side at 3:59.89.
Cassidy Bagby also competed in the steeplechase for the Blue and White finishing with a time of 11:25.36.
Nicholas Burns was the only Sycamore in the 800m and ran a time of 1:55.68.
Jumps
Indiana State swept the pole vault, long jump and triple jump titles at the Sycamore Open.
William Staggs moved up to second in program history in the pole vault after clearing 5.28m (17-03.75), while
Daniel O'Laughlin cleared 4.83m (15-10.00) to also place in the top three.
Selene Weaver and
Landis Brandon took the top two spots on the women's side after both cleared 3.91m (12-10.00).
In his first long jump of the outdoor season,
Shomari Rogers-Walton took home top spot with a mark of 7.32m (24-00.25), finishing just ahead of teammate
Frankie Young III (7.29m/23-11.00).
Emmanuel Odubanjo also had a first-place finish for the Trees in the triple jump with a top mark of 13.85m (45-05.25).
On the women's side,
Claire Pittman's strong season continued with a first-place finish in the long jump. Pittman's top mark came in at 5.57m (18-03.25), while
Faith Frye had a top mark of 5.45m (17-10.75) to place third.
Dominique Wood won the triple jump for the Blue and White with a mark of 11.22m (36-09.75).
Indiana State had third-place finishes in both high jump events, as
Lawrence Mitchell cleared 2.00m (6-06.75) in his season debut on the men's side and
Kamille Gaskin-Griffith cleared 1.45m (4-09.00) on the women's side.
Throws
Saturday was a big day for
Brandon Peck, as he won both the shot put (15.26m/50-00.75) and hammer throw (59.26m/195-07) at the Sycamore Open. Peck's hammer throw mark also moved him up to ninth in program history in the event.
Ryan Golliher placed third in both events, finishing with marks of 14.71m (48-03.25) in the shot put and 52.68m (172-10) in the hammer throw.
Brooklyn Giertz also picked up an event win for the throws group in the javelin, with her top mark on the day coming in at 42.11m (138-02).
Cloe Clark placed third for the Sycamores with a mark of 32.10m (105-04).
