KENNESAW, Ga. – Indiana State opened its 2023 outdoor season in the Peach State, with the Sycamores claiming eight event wins at the Don McGarey Invitational.
As a team, the Sycamores were second on both the men's and women's side, behind only Kennesaw State.
In addition to the event wins, which were spread across every event group, Indiana State athletes also set four top-10 marks in program history. Throwers
Wyatt Puff and
Noah Bolt were responsible for two of those marks in the discus, with
Riley Tuerff (400m hurdles) and the men's 4x100m relay team of
JaVaughn Moore,
Terrance O'Bannon,
Isiah Thomas and
Noah Malone recording the other top-10 program marks.

Sprints/Hurdles
Indiana State's sprints and hurdles group put together a strong opening weekend, with three wins and a pair of top-10 program marks.
Noah Malone won the 100m in 10.43, while
Quincy Armstrong (52.87) and
Riley Tuerff (1:01.58) swept the 400m hurdles titles. Tuerff's time ranked eighth in program history.
Malone was also joined in the top-three of the 100m by teammates
Isiah Thomas, who finished second with a time of 10.52. Indiana State also had a second-place finish in the women's 100m, with
Nyla Jones crossing the line in 11.85.
Both 4x100m relay teams also earned top-three finishes for the Sycamores, with the men's 4x1 team of
JaVaughn Moore,
Terrance O'Bannon,
Isiah Thomas and Malone running a time of 40.16 to rank third in program history. Moore and Malone also represented half of Indiana State's men's 4x400m relay that ran a time of 3:13.42, with both of those relay teams placing second. The women's 4x100m relay team of Jones,
Michelle McDonald,
Kamille Gaskin-Griffith and
Collette Wolfe came in third with a time of 46.48. ISU's women's 4x400m relay team of
Maria Biskopstoe,
Alysha Bradford,
Iyanla Hunter and
Sierra Long finished fourth with a time of 3:50.12.
The 400m hurdles weren't the only hurdles races where the Trees excelled, as
Collin Forrest placed third in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.73. Armstrong was right behind him in fourth with a time of 14.74.
Ryann Porter had the top 100m hurdles time for ISU at 14.18 to place fourth, with Tuerff running a time of 14.50 to finish sixth.
Indiana State also had strong showings in the 200m and 400m.
Cameron Stevens ran a career-best time of 21.74 in the men's 200m, while
Iyanla Hunter ran the top time for the Sycamore women at 25.05. In the 400m,
Wyatt Wyman clocked a time of 49.43.
Distance
Wyman led Indiana State's distance group with a first-place finish in the 1500m, one of three top-three finishes for the distance crew. Wyman ran a time of 3:51.85 in the event, with
Jason Dworak placing fourth in the event with a time of 3:57.14.
Also earning top-three finishes were
Ethan Breen, who ran a time of 1:53.47 in the 800m, and
Chloe Loftus, who had a 5000m time of 18:30.24. In addition, Biskopstoe finished fourth in the women's 800m with a time of 2:16.93 and
Morgan Dyer was fourth in the women's 1500m with a time of 4:47.29.
Jumps/Pole Vault
A sweep of the podium in the women's pole vault highlighted the weekend for the Blue and White, with
Selene Weaver taking top spot by clearing 3.90m (12-09.50).
Landis Brandon finished second after clearing 3.75m (12-03.50), while
Brooklyn Giertz cleared 3.60m (11-09.75) to place third. ISU got a second-place finish in the men's pole vault from
William Staggs, who cleared 4.88m (16-00.00).
Indiana State also swept the high jump titles, with
Trevor Thompson clearing 2.08m (6-09.75) to win the men's title and
Eva Grace Quinlan clearing 1.71m (5-07.25) on the women's side.
Kevin Krutsch also earned a podium finish in the event on the men's side, clearing 2.03m (6-07.75) to place third.
Porter picked up another high finish in the triple jump, placing second with a top mark of 12.44m (40-09.75).
Brittney Walker earned top-five finishes in both the long jump (5.75m/18-10.50) and triple jump (11.93m/39-01.75), while
Claire Pittman placed second in the long jump with a top mark of 6.03m (19-09.50).
On the men's side,
Frankie Young III had the top result for the Trees in the long jump (6.78m/22-03.00), while
Emmanuel Odubanjo had the top mark in the triple jump (13.87m/45-06.25) for the Sycamores.
Throws
Indiana State's throws group picked up right back where they left off from indoor season, posting a pair of top-10 program marks and an event win in the outdoor opener.
Wyatt Puff (54.03m/177-03) and
Noah Bolt (53.82m/176-07) moved into fifth and sixth in program history in the discus, placing second and third in the event this weekend. Puff also had a second-place showing in the shot put (17.01m.55-09.75), with
Brett Norton joining him on the podium in third (16.71m/54-10.00).
In addition to his top-10 program mark in the discus, Bolt picked up the lone event win from the throws group in the hammer with a top mark of 58.50m (191-11).
Brandon Peck also earned a top-three finish with his best mark coming in at 54.82m (179-10).
Justin Miller was the lone Sycamore in the men's javelin and placed fifth with a top throw of 50.36m (165-03).
On the women's side, the Sycamores got top-three finishes in the discus from both
Hannah Redlin (46.23m/151-09) and
Josie Hapack (45.40m/148-11). Redlin also placed in the top five in the shot put (14.13m/46-04.25), while Niesha Andesron qualified for finals in the shot put (13.75m/45-01.50), discus (40/68m/133-05) and hammer throw (47.66m/156-04).
Indiana State also had a top-five showing in the women's javelin from Giertz (39.40m/129-03), with
Cloe Clark (34.26m/112-05) also placing in the top 10.
