ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Indiana State Swimming and Diving swept the Missouri Valley's weekly awards this week as
Chloe Farro (Swimmer),
Claire Parsons (Freshman), and
Zoe Smith (Diver) claimed the conferences honors following their performances at the Miami Invitational.
Farro earned the recognition for the first time this season as the junior shattered the ISU school record for the 100-yard Freestyle, turned in ISU's fastest time in the 50-yard Freestyle, and was top-eight in the 200-yard Freestyle to highlight her individual performances this past weekend at the Miami Invitational.
Farro broke the ISU record by .22 seconds as the junior sprinter finished the 100-yard event finals with a time of 50.02 to break the previous mark set by
Alexa Szadorski (50.24) last year at the MVC Championships. She set a new personal-best in the 50-yard Free finals with a time of 23.17 breaking her past mark (23.52) by .35 seconds. Her final time of 1:52.48 put her in the top-eight in the 200-yard Freestyle.
She was also the lead leg in both ISU's top relay teams in both the 400-yard Freestyle (3:23.76) and (1:32.99), both times were season-lows for the Sycamores and earned top-three spots on the ISU All-Time Performance List.
Parsons earns Freshman of the Week honors for the third time this year as the Terre Haute native set new ISU records in both the 500-yard and 1650-yard Freestyle events and set the conference standard for the season in both events following this past week's Miami Invitational. The freshman became the first ISU athlete in program history to go sub-17 minutes in the 1650 as she posted a school-record 16:52.20 breaking the previous mark set by
Andrea Putrimas back in 2019. Her time in the event is also the fastest in the Valley this season by seven full seconds.
Parsons broke the ISU record twice in the 500-yard Freestyle over the weekend setting a new standard in the 500-yarf finals with a time of 4:51.86 to post the conference's top time in the category by 1.5 seconds.
In addition to her success in both the 500-yard and 1650-yard Freestyles, Parsons also made her debut on the 200-yard Backstroke Performance List posting a season-best 2:02.18 in the preliminaries putting her fifth all-time at ISU. She also posted the fourth-fastest time in ISU history in the 200-yard Freestyle making her debut on the list.
Smith claimed Diver of the Week recognition for the second time this season after winning the 3M Diving event and taking the top overall seed in the 1M Diving preliminary round.
The senior topped the field in the 3M event finals on Thursday night with a six-dive score of 285.20 to earn top honors for ISU. She improved on her preliminary round score by 21 points to take the win.
Smith followed up taking second in the 1M Diving event finishing just 1.9 points behind Miami's Sydney Rice (275.50) with a score of 273.60. Smith was the top qualifier in the 1M prelims with a score of 263.75, topping the field by nearly 15 points.
It marks the fourth, fifth, and sixth honors for the Sycamores this season as Indiana State wrapped up the fall season this past weekend in Oxford.
