Sycamores add Herbert, Rush to the Athletic Communications Staff

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State Associate A.D. for Communications/Digital Content Seth Montgomery announced the addition of Shay Herbert and Nick Rush to the Sycamore Athletic Communications staff on Thursday morning.

The duo joined the ISU staff prior to the start of the 2023-24 men's and women's basketball seasons and will help enhance the Sycamores communications, social media efforts, and digital content for the Indiana State Athletic Department.

"Adding Shay (Herbert) and Nick (Rush) to the communications team has immediately paid dividends in our coverage of Sycamore athletics," Montgomery said. "Their efforts, positive attitudes, communication skills, and drive to excel have already further enhanced the standard that has been set here at ISU. We're only going to continue to get better moving forward as they settle in and get comfortable with our teams and coaching staffs."

Herbert joined the Sycamores in mid-October by way of the University of Washington and Trine University. She takes over the primary role of Digital Media Coordinator overseeing Indiana State's social media and video efforts.

She spent several months over the summer as a Football Video Production Intern at UW assisting in the social media accounts for Husky Football, while working with photographers and videographers on recruiting shoots.

Prior to her time at UW, Herbert spent two years working as a Sports Information Specialist at Trine where she managed the social media accounts for Trine Athletics. She directed video and photo shoots with student-athletes and coaches, while editing and creating content for the Thunder. She also oversaw the videos and graphics produced by the student work staff for the athletic teams.

She started her work in content creation while competing for the Trine women's basketball team from 2017-2021. She spent time working as the Athletics Social Media Coordinator from 2018-20, as well as working with the HAC Media Team Editor-in-Chief, and a campus video production intern.

She graduated from Trine in 2021 with a degree in Communication with a focus in digital media creation and is currently working on her master's degree at the University of Washington.

Rush joined the Sycamores in early November by of RJL Solutions, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, and Manchester University. He takes over as Indiana State's primary men's basketball media contact as an Assistant Director of Athletic Communications.

Rush spent a year at RJL Solutions executing and overseeing the digital marketing and social media content for 20-plus clients across 60-plus accounts. He created numerous multipurpose short-term and long-form videos, while assisting the creation and implementation of social media and company brand development with both curated and fresh content.

Prior to his time at RJL, Rush worked under former Rose-Hulman SID Kevin Lanke as a Sports Information Graduate Assistant from 2020-22. During his tenure at RHIT, he designed gameday media program covers and social media graphics, while providing in-game coverage with live stats and creative content. He also implemented and managed the athletic department website including statistical intake via NLS and StatCrew.

Rush started his career in athletic communications as a Sports Information Student Intern at Manchester University from 2019-20. He performed statistical intake, website management, social media maintenance, and photography, while also assisting the NCAA Division III men's basketball championship local organizing committee with planning and videography for the Final Four.

He graduated from Manchester in 2020 with bachelor's degrees in both Marketing and Sport Management. He graduated from Indiana State in May 2022 with his master's degree in Sport Management.

The duo complete the full-time staff of ISU's athletic communications department joining Montgomery and Assistant Director Kieran Intemann.

"I cannot thank Kieran (Intemann) for his hard work this fall as we navigated the early portion of the 2023-24 season," Montgomery said. "His efforts to help provide coverage outside of his sport assignments, as well as working with our student work staff allowed us to continue to spread the word of Sycamore Athletics during the fall and enhance the student-athlete experience at ISU."
