TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State women's track & field's
Janiya Bowman was named this week's Hannig Construction Indiana State Student-Athletes of the Week as announced by the athletic department on Monday afternoon.
Janiya Bowman had a weekend to remember at the MVC Indoor Championships, scoring 20 points across three different events to earn Championship MVC honors as part of Indiana State's third straight MVC Women's Indoor Championship win.
Bowman broke the school record in the long jump at 6.15m (20-2.25), shattering Lauren Martin's record which had stood since 2010. She also ran a career-best time of 23.70 in the 200m, placing second in the field with the second-fastest time in school history and best since 1994.
Bowman anchored Indiana State's season-best 4x400m relay which placed second at 3:45.93, running a 56.13 split as the Sycamores ran their best 4x400m since 2017 and moved to eighth in program history in the event.
Bowman became Indiana State's fifth MVC Most Valuable Athlete winner, all of which have come under
Angela Martin since 2014. She finished the season with Top 10 program marks in the 60m (fifth), 200m (second), 300m (second), 4x400m (eighth) and long jump (first).
The Hannig Construction Indiana State Student-Athlete of the Week will be announced every week throughout the 2025-26 athletic season.
