TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State opens up the 2023-24 season this weekend as the Sycamores make the trip up to Wisconsin to take on Milwaukee (Oct. 13) and Green Bay (Oct. 14) to open their regular season competition slate.
The Sycamores make the trek to the Klotsche Natatorium for their regular season opener starting at 3 p.m. ET on Friday afternoon. ISU closes out their longest road trip of the season on Saturday morning at the Peter F. Dorschel Natatorium starting at 11 a.m. ET.
"We're looking forward to our first official competitions of the fall," head coach
Josh Christensen said. "It's been exciting to see how quickly this team has come together, as well as their work ethic in the pool and the weight room. This weekend will be a nice learning and growth opportunity for us."
The Sycamores enter the competition slate coming off their annual Blue-Gray Intrasquad on September 29 at the Vigo County Aquatic Center. The Gray team proved victorious over the Blue team in the annual competition by a score of 176-114 to wrap up the preseason slate.
The Sycamores competed in a full 14-event slate in the pool as well as both the 1M and 3M diving events. The Gray team won 12 of the 16 events highlighted by
Chloe Farro's 50- and 100-yard Freestyle sweep and Claire Parson's pair of wins in both the 500- and 1000-yard Freestyle events.
Zoe Smith also swept the 1M and 3M diving events to highlight the Gray team's successes in the pool.
The Blue team secured wins in the 100- and 200-yard Backstroke events thanks to
Kalli Agapios' sweep, while
Peyton Heagy on the 200-yard Freestyle and Ali Pearson took the win in the 100-yard Breaststroke to highlight the evening. Additional wins on the night include
Haley Halsall taking the 200-yard Fly,
Dorotea Bukvic winning the 200-yard Breaststroke,
Raine Boles the 100-yard Fly, and
Alexandria Cotter claiming the 200-yard IM.
The Sycamores were selected second overall in the MVC's preseason coaches poll as announced by the conference office late last week. ISU received 72 points and one first-place vote heading into the 2023-24 season as ISU looks to build off the most successful season in program history.
The Sycamores return four All-Conference athletes including
Kaimi Matsumoto,
Alexa Szadorski,
Zoe Smith, and
Bailey Betzer. Additionally, six Sycamores return to the roster after earning MVC Honorable Mention honors last season.
