TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State topped the competition at the
John Gartland Invitational as the Sycamores picked up the team wins in both the men's and women's standings following the two-day event at the Indiana State Indoor Track Facility.
The Sycamores men (172) topped the five-team field over Eastern Illinois (138.5), SEMO (135.5), Marian (58), and Vincennes (7) in their first home meet of the 2023 season. The women (188) also picked up the team win over the four-team field topping SEMO (157), Marian (108), and Eastern Illinois (67).
Indiana State combined for 15 event wins and 35 overall top-three finishes in recording the win. The Sycamores added three ISU Indoor Facility records and five
John Gartland Invitational records to their totals over the weekend.

Additional Top-10 Indiana State Performance List Marks
Sprints/Hurdles
Collette Wolfe was the top finisher in both the women's 60m dash preliminaries (7.76) and finals (7.68) to lead the way for Indiana State in the sprints.
Nyla Jones was second in both categories finishing the prelims in 7.78 before taking second in the finals in 7.73. Emily Lowe was ISU's top finisher in the 200m dash with a time of 27.84 (10th), while
Iyanla Hunter paced three Sycamores in the top-four in the 400m dash and was the lone athlete to go under one minute in the event (58.16).
Terrance O'Bannon had the top prelim time in the men's 60m dash (6.88) and followed up with the same time in the finals to place third overall in the field.
Daunte Majors was also in the top-three in the prelims following his 6.91 before placing fourth with a 6.90.
Cameron Stevens (22.37, 3rd) and Majors (22.43, 4th) finished among the leaders in the 200m dash, while
JaVaughn Moore set a new meet record with his 49.51 on the way to winning the 400m dash.
Distance
Morgan Dyer (10:23.69, 3rd) and
Chloe Loftus (10:28.61, 4th) finished in the top-four in the women's 3000m run to highlight ISU's efforts in the distance races.
Sara Skaff was tops among the Sycamores in the one-mile run (5:13.53, 5th), while
Cassidy Bagby (5:15.64, 6th) and
Kyra Young (5:25.83, 8th) were also in the top-10.
Cami Farmer rounded out the Sycamores in the distance with a top-three finish in the women's 5000m race (18:58.99).
Wyatt Wyman highlighted the men's distance with an ISU Facility Record in the 600m run crossing the line in 1:20.12, while
Tahj Johnson narrowly missed out on the top three finishing fourth in 1:22.18.
Cael Light (4:16.58, one-mile) and
Jackson Krieg (8:24.47, 3000m) also added distance wins for the Sycamores, while
Emerson Fayman (4:23.49, 2nd, one-mile) and
Jason Dworak (8:27.83, 2nd, 3000m) put Indiana State 1-2 in each event.
Jumps/Pole Vault
Kelsey Bowlds finished fourth in the women's high jump with a height of 1.60m (5-03.00) in just missing out on the top-three in the event.
Selene Weaver (3.96m/12-11.75, 2nd) led six Sycamores that finished in the top-seven in the women's pole vault, while
Brooklyn Giertz posted the ninth-best finish on the ISU performance list in the event following her 3.86m (12-08.00) mark.
Ryann Porter continued her winning ways in the women's long jump after reaching 5.67m (18-07.25) in her first attempt to take the event title over teammate Brittany Walker (5.66m/18-07.00).
Dominique Wood added a top-three result on her second attempt of the women's triple jump to finish third in the field at 11.05m (36-03.00).
Kevin Krutsch nearly matched SEMO's Hatfield Jackson jump-for-jump in finishing second in the men's high jump as the senior set a new personal-best at 2.15m (7-00.50).
William Staggs continued his winning ways with a height of 5.13m (16-10.00) to top the men's pole vault field, while
Daniel O'Laughlin (4.53m/14-10.25) added a top-three result in the field.
Shomari Rogers-Walton posted the second-best jump all-time in the ISU Indoor Performance list following his 7.65m (25-01.25) to win the event while
Frankie Young III (7.13m/23-04.75) finished tied for third on his third jump of the day.
Throws
Hannah Redlin picked up the win in the women's shot put, while
Niesha Anderson finished second in both the shot put and weight throw events to highlight the women's side of the throwing events.
Redlin reached 13.78m (45-02.50) on her first throw of the event to set the standard in the event, while Anderson finished second following her 13.77m (45-02.25) on her fourth attempt of the day.
Josie Hapack narrowly missed out on the podium following her 13.04m/42-09.50 mark on her third shot put attempt. Anderson added a second-place finish in the weight throw with a new personal-mark 19.54m/64-01.25, while Hapack finished fifth following her 16.59m/54-05.25.
Brett Norton led the Sycamores in the men's shot put taking home the win following his 17.52m/57-05.75 mark on his third attempt. He was the lone athlete to post three throws that hit 17-meters or more.
Elias Foor (16.41m/53-10.25, 4th) and Noah Bult (53-03.75, 5th) were also in the top-five in the event. Norton added a top-three result in the men's weight throw (19.94, 65-05.00, 3rd) to finish on the podium for the second time on the day.
Relays
Indiana State took the women's 4x400m relay title by over a full second as the team of Marai Biskopstoe,
Sierra Long,
Ayana Parchman, and
Iyanla Hunter topped the field in 4:01.71.
The men's team saw similar success as ISU set a new ISU Indoor Facility Record and
John Gartland Invitational record in the event as
Cameron Stevens,
Trent Jones,
Wyatt Wyman, and
Tahj Johnson finished in 3:18.37.
