NORMAL, Ill. – Indiana State took home 11 event titles Saturday at the Coughlan-Malloy Cup, but host Illinois State retained the cup for a fifth consecutive year with an overall 160-139 win over the Sycamores.
The Redbirds outscored the Sycamores 79-71 on the men's side and 81-68 on the women's side.
Despite not having key contributors in multiple events Saturday, the Sycamores still found plenty of bright spots.
William Staggs (pole vault) and
Ryann Porter (triple jump) both took home event wins for a second straight meet, with the Sycamores sweeping the titles in the high jump and long jump. Indiana State also won the women's 60m hurdles, women's shot put, men's mile, men's 4x400m relay and men's 400m.

Sprints/Hurdles
Newcomers led the way in the short sprints on the men's side, with O'Bannon (second, 6.79) and Thomas (third, 6.80) each running sub-6.8 times in the 60m to place on the podium.
Collin Forrest ran 8.43 in the 60m hurdles to place fourth. Sullivan led the way for the Trees on the women's side with a win in the 60m hurdles at 8.51, while Porter also earned a top-three finish in the event at 8.84.
Nyla Jones ran a 7.64 in the 60m in a fast finals.
Stevens was the other notable performance among the sprinters, as he placed first in the 400m (50.24) and, along with
Tahj Johnson,
Trent Jones and
Wyatt Wyman, won the 4x400m relay in 3:21.26. Jones also earned a third-place finish in the 400m at 50.65. Indiana State's team of Biskopstoe, Bradford, Long and Hunter placed third in the women's 4x400m relay at 3:58.02, with Long also running the top 400m time for the Trees at 1:02.35.
In the 200m,
Brendan Rogers had the top finish on the men's side with a time of 23.83, while Hunter ran the top time on the women's side at 26.34.
Distance
Biskopstoe also had the best mark of any Sycamore in the mid-distance events with a second-place finish in the women's 800m (2:17.79). On the men's side, Burns had the best finish for the Trees in the 800m with a time of 1:59.51 to place third.
Indiana State went 1-2 in the mile on the men's side, with Breen (4:14.79) narrowly edging out Krieg (4:15.03) to win the event. The Trees also got top-three finishes on the women's side from Dyer in the mile (5:15.89) and Barker in the 3000m (10:17.85).
Logan Pietrzak had the top result for the Sycamores in the men's 3000m, placing fifth with a time of 8:38.53.
Jumps/Pole Vault
Six of Indiana State's 11 event wins Saturday came from the jumps and pole vault group, including sweeps of the long jump and high jump titles.
Staggs had the headline performance with a personal-best mark of 5.21m (17-01.00) in the pole vault to win the event. He set the meet record and moved into the top five in program history with his performance Saturday. On the women's side,
Selene Weaver had the top mark at 3.80m (12-05.50), while
Landis Brandon cleared 3.65m (11-11.75)
Also having a career-best day for the Sycamores was Walker, who had a personal-best mark of 5.86m (19-02.75) to win the long jump title. Walker also placed second in the triple jump at 12.06m (39-07.00), which was also the best indoor mark of her career. The only person better than Walker in the triple jump Saturday was her teammate, Porter, who had a mark of 12.28m (40-03.50).
Completing the sweep of the long jump titles for the Trees was Conard, who had a top mark of 7.37m (24-02.25) to win the event. Young III gave the Blue and White a 1-2 finish at the top with a mark of 7.23m (23-08.75). Odubanjo earned a second-place finish in the triple jump with a top mark of 14.24m (46-08.75)
Indiana State also took home the top spots in both high jump competitions, with Bowlds tying her career-best mark of 1.73m (5-08.00) on the women's side and Krutsch posting his best mark since the 2022 MVC Indoor Championships at 2.09m (6-10.25) on the men's side. Indiana State also got a top-three finish from Quinlan on the women's side (third, 1.65m/5-05.00) and Thompson (second, 2.08m/6-09.75) on the men's side.
Throws
Indiana State also had an event win from the throws group, which came from Redlin in the shot put. Her mark of 14.85m (48-08.75) was a personal best and also cracked the top 10 in school history. Also earning a podium finish for the Sycamore women was Anderson, who placed second in the weight throw with a mark of 18.06m (59-03.00).
On the men's side, Norton earned a pair of podium finishes for the Blue and White. He placed second in the weight throw with a career-best mark of 19.70m (64-07.75), moving into ninth in program history in the event, while also placing third in the shot put with a mark of 17.29m (56-08.75). Norton was joined on the podium in the weight throw by Puff, who had a top mark of 18.47m (60-07.25).
