TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Indiana State swimming and diving team will be splitting up this weekend as the Sycamores continue the 2022-23 season on the road. The Sycamore divers will be heading to West Lafayette, Ind. to take on the field at the Purdue Invite, while the swim team heads to Topeka, Kan. for the Kansas Classic.

The Sycamores divers open up the action on Wednesday afternoon with the 3-meter diving event and will wrap up on Thursday with the 1-meter competition.

"The girls have put in some solid training leading up to the Purdie Invite," diving coach
Teresa Hall said. "We're looking forward to seeing that hard work pay off as we move through the competition."

Already this season the Sycamore divers have garnered recognition with Zoe Smith earning MVC Diver of the Week honors following the last competition. Smith's scores of 270.95 (3M) and 265.95 (1M) put her third and second all-time in the Indiana State record book. She also currently sits top five in the conference in both events heading into the weekend.

Bailey Betzer has also continued a strong season of her own sitting eighth overall in the 3M MVC rankings, while
Daniela Orta Castaneda posted a career-best 210.30 in the 1M dive in her last event.
Sierra Bowman has also made strides throughout the season.

The Sycamore swim team looks to bounce back against a tough field at the Kansas Classic as ISU will be one of six teams competing at the Capitol Federal Natatorium at Hummer Sports Park this week. The three-day event will take place over Friday, Saturday and Sunday with prelims starting in the morning at 11 a.m. ET, while finals start at 7 p.m. ET.

ISU brings several of the top seeds to the field at the Kansas Classic with all four of the Sycamore relay teams listed as the psych favorites heading into the weekend. Additionally,
Alexandria Cotter (200 & 400 IM) enters as the pool favorite in two events, while a trio of Sycamores in Katie Dougherty,
Marni Gray, and Cotter all sit among the leaders in the 200-yard Butterfly.

"We're excited to go back to the Kansas Classic this year," head coach
Josh Christensen said. "We've been building a lot of momentum through our Fall training and competitions and this meet will be a great opportunity to work on putting it together at a multiple day prelim/final meet that more closely resembles what conference will look like. I'm really proud of the work we've done this Fall and where our team culture and chemistry is at. We have excellent leadership and a group that's all on the same page. This meet will give us a chance to be very team focused and really utilize the depth we've built over the last few years."

The Sycamores rewrote the ISU record book last season at the Kansas Classic with
Chloe Farro setting a new ISU record in the 100-yard Freestyle, while
Madie Rutan took the individual event title in the 200-yard Backstroke and set the school record in the 100-yard Backstroke event.

ISU also set a new record in the 400-yard freestyle relay on their way to finishing third overall in the field. Overall, Indiana State set 11 new top-10 marks in the Sycamore all-time performance list last season at the meet.
