Branum under par, Green finishes third to cap the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate

SPRINGFIELD, Tenn.Madison Branum went under par for the first time in the 2021-22 season, while Lauren Green moved up two spots in the final individual standings to finish third overall as Indiana State wrapped up the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate on Tuesday afternoon.
 
Branum posted the second-lowest score in the field on Tuesday as the junior posted a trio of birdies over the front-nine of the course on her way to a final-round 70 (-2). The Lexington, S.C. recorded the Sycamores' lowest round of the season by three strokes in her first action of the year.
 
Green (+4) continued her strong start to the fall season as the Merseyside, England native finished six strokes back of individual champion Kendall Maynard (Belmont). Green posted a final round 73 (+1) with birdies on the 12th and 18th holes to record her best finish of the season to date.
 
Indiana State (+50) improved its stroke total over each round with the Sycamores turning in a final-round 303 (+15) on the day. The Sycamores finished tied for fifth overall in the field for their best team finish to date after a three-round score 306-305-303.
 
"We definitely were much improved from the first tournament," commented Head Golf Coach Greg Towne. "We had some good stuff on the course today. Madison (Branum) recorded her best-ever round and one of the lowest rounds of the day, while Lauren (Green) did her usual and finished in the top-three. I'm definitely proud of Kristen (Hobbs) as she broke through with a gutty performance today. We're looking forward to Butler's home event next week."
 
Sophomore Kristen Hobbs (+10) moved up five positions over the final day with her lowest round of the weekend. The Anderson, Ind. native turned in a final round 74 (+2) with birdies on the 16th and the ninth holes to finish tied for 12th overall in the field.
 
Chelsea Morrow (+15) finished tied for 19th overall in the field following her final-round 77 (+5). The sophomore carded a birdie on the 12th hole to highlight her final round of the week.
 
Iyoun Chew (+21) was consistent through the three rounds of golf in the tournament as the freshman finished in a tie for 35th in the field. The Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia native birdied the 18th hole as she carded her third consecutive round-score of 79.
 
Molly Lee (+31) wrapped up the lineup Head Coach Greg Towne included on the course on Tuesday afternoon. The freshman went 82-81-84 with a birdie on the 12th hole in the final round to close out the tournament.
 
Individually, Branum (+15) made the largest jump of anyone in the field on Tuesday as the junior moved up 17 spots over the final 18 holes. The Lexington, S.C. native birdied the second, seventh, and eighth holes on the day to finish with the second-lowest round of the day behind tournament champion Kendall Maynard (69, -3).
 
Grace Welty (+30) also competed individually for the Sycamores over the two-day event. The freshman finished tied for 44th overall following her final-round 85 (+13).
 
News & Notes
  • Indiana State turned in the third-lowest team par-5 scoring average over the tournament with the Sycamores averaging 5.10 strokes and sitting +6 on the holes in the three rounds.
  • The Sycamores were also fifth overall in par-3 scoring (3.33 strokes) and posted a +20 score on the holes in the tournament.
  • Lauren Green tied for the second-lowest score par-3 scoring average in the tournament sitting even-par with a 3.00 stroke average.
  • Kristen Hobbs was the team leader in par-4 scoring with the sophomore averaging 4.17 strokes per hole with a +5 score over the 54 holes.
  • Green finished tied for second overall in par-5 scoring average at 4.75 strokes per hole and a -3 score in the tournament.
