Seth Montgomery Named Associate Athletic Director for Communications & Digital Content

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Seth Montgomery has joined Indiana State Athletics as the Associate Athletic Director for Communications and Digital Content, Sycamore Director of Athletics Sherard Clinkscales announced on Monday afternoon.

"I couldn't be happier to welcome Seth to Indiana State and to have him join our athletic communications staff. He brings exceptional leadership, accountability and innovation to our young department and his experiences at Charleston Southern will help continue to enhance our partnership with ESPN here on campus. I have no doubt that Seth will take our athletic communications department to new heights as we compete with our peers in the Missouri Valley Conference," Clinkscales said.

Montgomery will oversee the overall management, operations and performance evaluations of Athletic Communications while also ensuring Indiana State Athletics is meeting the communication goals of its 15 sponsored NCAA Division I sports.

"Many thanks to Athletics Director Sherard Clinkscales, Angie Lansing and the entire hiring committee for this opportunity for me and my family to join the Sycamore staff," Montgomery said. "I'm excited to come on board and work with a great athletic communications staff already in place at Indiana State. We're looking forward to doing big things moving forward and can't wait to get up there."

Prior to joining Indiana State Athletics, Montgomery worked at the Charleston Southern University as the Associate Athletic Director for Communication/Public Relations. Among his essential duties and responsibilities for the athletic department included serving on the Athletic Department's Senior Staff Leadership, oversight of the media and public relations for the athletic department, and oversight of the broadcast and streaming productions. He also oversaw the game day and event operations from the media standpoint, as well as serving as the primary graphic designer for content and promotional items.

Montgomery oversaw the publicity efforts of the University's NCAA Division I intercollegiate sports in addition to overseeing the athletic department's website (CSUSports.com), social media accounts, press releases, and statistical records.

He also served as the Chair of the Big South Conference's SID Committee, having been elected to the role in the summer of 2020 for a two-year term. Previously, he served as the conference's Football SID Chair from 2017-2020.

During his tenure with the Buccaneers, he helped launch several new social media platforms working on a social media plan and development for the CSU athletic department. His graphic design efforts led to the CSU athletic department receiving SkullSparks FCS Visual Top 25 recognition in the 2016-17 athletic year as one of the top programs in the nation in graphic arts.

Montgomery was also influential in two different relaunches of the CSUSports.com website with the latest coming in 2019 as CSU joined the SIDEARM Sports family.

Montgomery joined the Buccaneers SID staff after four years at Brevard College where he served as the Athletic Media Relations Director (2008-12). He served as the primary media contact for all 18 of the Tornados athletic teams, as well as an alternate color commentator for BC football, basketball and baseball games. Montgomery also served as the host for Tornado Talk, BC's weekly morning radio sports show hosted by WSQL 1240 AM from 8:45-9 a.m., where he recapped the week's events with Brevard student-athletes, coaches, staff and Tornados fans.

Montgomery started working in Athletic Media Relations as a student-assistant at North Greenville University, where he worked with the football and baseball teams as both a statistician and radio color commentator.

He also served as the main media contact for the Spartanburg Stingers baseball team in the Coastal Plains League in 2007, serving as the statistician and radio alternate. Prior to joining the staff at Brevard, Montgomery worked as a media intern at the Arnold Palmer Invitational Golf Tournament at the Bay Hill Country Club in Orlando, Fla. in 2008.

He graduated magna cum laude in December of 2008 from North Greenville University with a Bachelor of Science in Sport Management with a minor in Business Administration. He graduated with his MBA from Charleston Southern University in December of 2015.

WHAT THEY ARE SAYING ABOUT SETH MONTGOMERY

"Seth Montgomery's departure from CSU epitomizes what it means to be bittersweet. Seth has been an invaluable teammate to both our football ministry, as well as to our CSU family as a whole, and to say he will be missed is an understatement. However, because of his selflessness, professionalism, creativity, and leadership ability there is no one else more deserving of this opportunity. We will miss him, but we wish him nothing but continued significance as we know he will make his CSU family proud by unapologetically being who God has called him to be. Thanks Seth & good luck to you and your family in Sycamore land."

"Seth will do a tremendous job at Indiana State, just as he did at Charleston Southern.  Not only did he elevate CSU's external brand awareness, he instituted a higher level of focus and emphasis on the student-athletes and their successes.  Seth has been a trusted colleague over the years and served several committees to help push the Big South Conference forward.  His skill set and vast knowledge of our ever-evolving Athletics Communications industry will continue to make him successful, and ISU will greatly benefit with him on its staff."
