TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Following a unique year in collegiate athletics, Indiana State Athletics boasted strong fundraising efforts to help offset costs incurred by the COVID-19 pandemic thanks to tremendous generosity and support from Sycamore donors, fans and friends.
Overall, the department generated over 1.5 million dollars in revenue from a variety of initiatives including Step Up, Give To Blue Day, Golf Outings, individual gifts as well as Varsity Club and season ticket holders who donated their annual seat donations.
"When I took this job nearly six years ago, I knew that we needed to grow our fundraising if we wanted our athletic programs to stay competitive. Thanks to the work of our development officers
Danny Plasencia and
Logan Kidd, and our loyal supporters, we have been able to leverage our success from Elevate, Give to Blue Day and other initiatives to reach this new benchmark." Director of Athletics
Sherard Clinkscales noted. "I truly believe that fundraising is about building both equity and trust while showing that you genuinely care. That is the hallmark that Athletics has stood on since I became the Athletic Director at Indiana State and I cannot thank our fans, donors and supporters enough."
Sycamore Athletics raised over $242,000 during Indiana State's annual Give To Blue Day, which was piloted three years ago by Athletics. The department led all entities on campus with nearly a quarter million dollars in donations and helped the University to a record-breaking $1 million in gifts during the 24-hour event.
In an effort to overcome the challenging financial impact of COVID-19, Sycamore Athletics launched the Step Up Initiative. Funds raised were used to cover the extra costs endured such as COVID testing, PPE, and other safety precautions to keep our student-athletes, coaches, and staff members safe. Overall, donations through the initiative surpassed $184,000.
"I cannot thank our supporters enough who stepped up and helped us overcome a challenging year. What we have been able to accomplish is a testament to the passion, support and potential here at Indiana State," Plasencia said. "I also want to thank our coaches and staff who work so hard day in and day out with our fundraising efforts while at the same time providing our student-athletes with the best possible college athletic experience. It takes a village, and everyone is pulling together to help us succeed. We look forward to continuing this momentum into next year and beyond."
