DES MOINES, Iowa – The Indiana State track and field teams are slated to split squad this week, sending athletes to the historic Drake Relays while others will compete at the Sycamore Open on Saturday, Apr. 24.

ABOUT THE DRAKE RELAYS
The 111th running of the Drake Relays will begin on Thursday, Apr. 22 and run through Saturday, Apr. 24. Some of the world's best athletes will descend upon Des Moines, Iowa to compete on the track and in the field. Announced thus far include national champions from 16 different countries, five Olympic gold medalists, 12 total medalists and 21 total Olympic finals appearances. The entire field will feature a total of 10 World Champions and 32 total World Championship medals.

STAYING HOME AGAIN
While part of the team travels to Iowa for the Drake Relays, part of the team will remain home to host their second meet in-a-row at the Sycamore Open. The competition, scheduled to take place on Saturday, Apr. 24, will include teams from Austin Peay, Bethel, Carroll (Wis.), Chicago State, Evansville, Illinois Chicago, Indianapolis, IUPUI, Loyola Chicago, Saint Louis, Southeast Missouri State, SIU Edwardsville, Southern Indiana, Vincennes and Wabash.

THINGS TO KNOW
Jocelyn Quiles will get things started at the Drake Relays for the Sycamores, competing in the University Division of the 3000-meter steeplechase at 7:38 p.m. ET.
Noah Malone will be competing in the Paralympic 100-meter dash final on Friday at 5:40 p.m. ET and then the Paralympic 200-meter dash on Saturday at 3:12 p.m. ET. The men's Shuttle Hurdle Relay team of

Avery Taylor,
Matthew Lewis-Banks and
Quincy Armstrong will look to defend the Drake Relays title that the Trees won in 2019 with a time of 1:00.86.

GIBSON NOTABLES
The Indiana State men picked up their second victory of the season at the Gibson Invitational, including overtaking Valley-rival Northern Iowa, while the Sycamore women ended in third overall. On Friday in the javelin,
Jayla Bynum recorded a personal-best and fourth-best toss in school history of 41.47m (136-01) to claim fourth in the competition. Freshman
Zoe Sullivan was close to entering the Sycamore top-10, placing third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.19, just .02 away from 10th in school history.

TOP-10 AT BAMA
Several Sycamores made their marks in the Indiana State record book  at the Crimson Tide Invitational.
JaVaughn Moore ran the third-fastest time in ISU history in the 100-meter dash en route to a win, clocking the best MVC time of 10.39. In the men's 800-meter run,
Leroy Russell placed second overall, posting the best time in the conference of 1:50.19, also the sixth-best time in ISU history. On the women's side,
Ryann Porter had her best day in a Sycamore uniform, taking fourth in the women's triple behind a personal-best jump of 12.36m (40-06.75), the sixth-best jump in Sycamore history.

SPRINT RELAY
The men's 4X100-meter relay squad of

JaVaughn Moore,
Jhivon Wilson and
Noah Malone continue to dominate the Missouri Valley Conference. Against some of the top relay teams in the nation at Alabama, the group placed fifth with a season-best time of 40.60 pushing them to 29th in the East and giving them a lead in the Valley by over a second.

MAKE IT TWO
Freshman
Noah Malone earned his second-consecutive MVC Male Track Athlete of the Week Award for his performances against Eastern Illinois. Malone continued his dominance on the track for the Sycamores on against EIU. The freshman once again collected a pair of victories in the 100 and 200-meter dashes, clocking a wind-aided (2.2) time of 10.55. His time was once again faster than the Americas and USA Para World Records and is now 46th in the NCAA East Region.

He followed that performance with a victory in the 200-meter dash, running faster than the Para World Record for the second week in a row, recording a wind-aided (3.3) time of 21.07 to reclaim the MVC lead.

ENTER TOP-10
Sycamores
Jayla Bynum and
Jocelyn Quiles made their way into the ISU record book for the women against EIU. Bynum won the javelin throw against the Panthers with the seventh-best mark in ISU history of 39.13m (128-04) while Quiles took first in the 3000-meter run with the seventh-best time in Sycamore history of 9:59.27. On the men's side,
Noah Malone's 200-meter dash time of 21.07 is the ninth-fastest in Indiana State history.

DOUBLE-DUBS
In their first scored meet of the season, the Indiana State men and women were both victorious over Eastern Illinois. Indiana State's men ended with a 112-58 advantage over the Panthers while the women claimed the team victory with a 106-65 win.

REWRITING THE RECORD BOOK
In the first outdoor meet of his Sycamore career,Â
Will Smith had a strong performance for the Trees in the men's 800-meter run. Smith ran the sixth-fastest time in Indiana State history in the 800-meter run of 1:50.62 to claim a second-place finish.

SOMETHING TO PROVE
Sycamore track and field was in the hunt for a championship through the very end at the 2021 MVC Indoor Championships. Indiana State's men claimed the runner-up position as a team, falling narrowly to Northern Iowa, 167.5-165, by way of the 4X400-meter relay. The women took fourth as a team, falling to Illinois State, Southern Illinois and Northern Iowa.

VALLEY AWARDS
A duo of Sycamores was honored by the Missouri Valley Conference following the MVC Indoor Championships for their performances on the track and in the classroom.Â
Mia Mackenzie earned the Elite 17 Award for being the female athlete with the best GPA in the meet. On the men's side,Â
Matthew Lewis-Banks was named the MVC Most Outstanding Male Track Athlete for holding the highest national ranking at the conclusion of the meet, ranking 28th in the NCAA in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.85.
