Green Places Fourth to Earn All-Valley Accolades as Sycamores Wrap Up Season at MVC Championship

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Lauren Green earned her first MVC All-Conference nod as the Indiana State women's golf team closed out its season Tuesday at the 2021 Missouri Valley Conference Women's Golf Championship in St. Charles, Mo.

Green's 77-stroke finish led all players in the third and final round as the junior finished tied for fourth overall to earn postseason honors, carding 232 (76-79-77) over the event. The Merseyside, England native tallied 10 pars as well as a birdie on the first and twelfth holes as rain and snow showered Bogey Hills Country Club (par 71; 5,987 yards) throughout the day.

"The conditions over the last 24 hours were the toughest we have seen all season with temperatures in the mid-60s on Monday and on Tuesday we are battling temperatures in the 30s with rain and snow," Indiana State head women's golf coach Greg Towne said. "Considering this was the first MVC Championship event that any of our players have participated in and I believe this experience will help prepare them for the future."

Towne added: "I am especially proud of Lauren (Green) and how she battled throughout the tournament. She shot the best score of any player in the third round – all through rain and snow to finish tied for fourth and earning all-conference honors."

Madison Branum also showed poise finishing tied for 28th overall after carding a 247 (76-81-90) over the 54-hole event. Iyoun Chew finished 33rd (79-84-88=251), Kristen Hobbs finished tied for 39th (89-82-84=255) and Lizzie Bickar rounded out the scoring in 49th with a score of 272 (85-92-95).

The Sycamores ended the 54-hole event in eighth place with a team score of 981 (316-326-349). Evansville (300-304-338) edged UNI (308-306-328) in a playoff to claim the MVC title and the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Regionals after both teams finished with respective scores of 942. The UE's Sophia Rohleder laid claim to individual medalist honors with a 229 (75-74-80).

Indiana State is slated to return eight letterwinners when it opens it 2021-22 season in September.
