CARBONDALE, Ill. – Indiana State swimming & diving sits in third place at the Missouri Valley Conference Championships following Thursday's action at Shea Natatorium.
The Sycamores have tallied 322.5 points, trailing Missouri State (618.5) and Southern Illinois (363.5). Behind ISU is Illinois State (282), UNI (224), Little Rock (223), Evansville (210.5) and Valparaiso (95).
Surging Sycamores
Marni Gray broke the school record in the 100-butterfly prelims with a time of 54.85. Gray broke her own record in finals, en route to a second-place finish earning All-Conference honors with a time of 54.42 knocking 0.42 seconds off her prelim time.
In the 400-individual medley,
Molly Fogarty and
Colleen O'Connor earned All-MVC honorable mention. Fogarty placed fifth overall with a season-best time of 4:28.02 and O'Connor earned seventh place touching the wall with a season-best time of 4:29.52.
A pair of Sycamores posted season-best times in the 100-backstroke.
Madie Rutan earned All-MVC Honorable Mention with her fourth-place finish with a time of 55.57.
Marlene Pavlu Lewin placed ninth overall with a time of 56.07.
The 800-freestlye relay team of
Marlene Pavlu Lewin,
Kaimi Matsumoto,
Rhiannon Wozny and
Emily Webb took second to conclude Thursday action. Their silver finish earned them a podium spot with a time of 7:30.25.
Sarah Montgomery,
Keara Shelton and
Bailey Betzer made the consolation finals in the three-meter diving finishing in the top sixteen. This is the first time in program history that a trio of divers have made the finals. Shelton was the top finisher in the B finals, placing fourth with a score of 190.25, Montgomery was right behind her in fifth place with a time of 189.55 and Betzer finished in seventh place with a score of 182.30.
