Sierra Hargens,
Kayla Ryan and
Lauren Green have been named Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholars for the 2019-20 academic year as recently announced by the national organization.
The WGCA All-American Scholars award was earned by a total of 1,401 women's collegiate golfers in 2019-20. The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum GPA is 3.50.
The ISU honorees include: Hargens who graduated from Indiana State with a 3.87 cumulative grade point average in Mechanical Engineering Technology while Ryan also wrapped up her ISU academic career with a GPA of 3.85 by majoring in exercise science.
Lauren Green returns next year with a 3.86 cumulative grade point average while majoring in Recreation & Sport Management.
Hargens finished second on the team with a 78.1 strokes per round average over 16 rounds of play. Her low round of 74 came during the second round of the Butler Fall Invitational and her score of 230 was tied for 12th place at Butler. In the season opener at the Redbird Invitational, she recorded a score of 230 and finished in a tie for 45th place. Hargens tied for fourth place at the Mastodon Fall Invitational with a final score of 232 including rounds of 76, 77 and 79. She tallied a tournament score of 234 at the Kiawah Island Spring Classic.
This past year, Ryan was third on the team with a 79.8 strokes per round average and her season-best score of 74 came during the second round of the opener at the Redbird Invitational. She recorded a Top 20 finish with rounds of 75, 74 and 75 for a total of 224 which tied her for 15th place at Illinois State. Ryan finished in a tie for 27th place at Butler with rounds of 80, 79 and 83 for a total of 242 and posted a total of 243 and a tie for 21
st place at the Mastodon Fall Invite. She tied for 22nd at the Charles Braun Intercollegiate at Evansville with around of 81. In her final collegiate event, she improved each day at the Kiawah Island Spring Classic as she began with an 80, followed that up with a 79 and finished with a 77 for a total of 236 which was tied for 157th place.
Lauren Green recorded four consecutive Top 5 individual finishes to close out the fall portion of the schedule last season. The run began at the MVC Fall Preview with a final three-round score of 233 which was good enough for a fifth place finish. She then tied for fourth place at the Butler Fall Invitational with a final score of 225, including a final round tally of 73. Her tournament total of 229 at the Mastodon Fall Invite, including a final round of one-over-par 72, was good enough for a third place finish. Green's round of 77 at the Charles Braun Intercollegiate finished in fifth place. She paced the Sycamores with a score of 231 at the Kiawah Island Spring Classic and led the team with a 76.9 strokes per round average.
