Sycamores Clinch Series Against Kansas with Sunday Win

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Indiana State baseball picked up its second weekend series win of the season Sunday afternoon with an 8-2 win over Kansas inside Hoglund Park.

Indiana State was led by Sean Ross and Diego Gines at the plate as the duo each went for two hits. Gines scored two runs while Ross drove in two runs for the Sycamores.

Cameron Edmonson earned the win in four and two-third innings pitched to improve to 2-1 on the year. The freshman struck out four while walking just one Jayhawk in the game. Connor Cline was excellent in relief, going three and a third innings, allowing just one hit while striking out four. Tyler Grauer struck out one Kansas hitter as he tossed the final inning of play.

The Sycamores (8-6) clawed back from an early 2-0 deficit to reel off eight unanswered runs. Trailing by two runs in the second inning, Indiana State went for a pair of runs on Dominic Cusumano's single to center field to score Max Wright and Diego Gines.

An inning later Gines put the Sycamores ahead for good with a three-run home run over the wall in left field – his second home run of the season. ISU added a run an inning later on a fielder's choice that allowed Grant Magill to come home which signaled the end of the day for Kansas starting pitcher Eli Davis.

Sean Ross collected his fifth and sixth RBIs of the season in the sixth inning with a single to center field to make it an 8-2 advantage for the Sycamores.

Kansas (7-8) was led by Ben Sems with a 2-for-4 day at the plate. Davis (2-2) took the loss for KU after allowing six runs in four and a third innings.

Indiana State returns to Terre Haute this weekend as the Sycamores welcome Big Ten for Michigan State in a three-game series at Bob Warn Field beginning Friday at 3 p.m.
