The Indiana State women's golf team will begin their spring season by participating in the 2020 Kiawah Island Classic from March 1-3 in Kiawah Island, S.C. The event which features a record 53 teams, will take place on three different golf courses.
Those courses are:
Osprey Point – Kiawah Island Golf Resort – Kiawah Island, S.C. – Par 72 – 5,984 yards
Oak Point – Kiawah Island Golf Resort – Kiawah Island, S.C. – Par 72 – 5,977 yards
Cougar Point – Kiawah Island Golf Resort – Kiawah Island, S.C. – Par 72 – 5,980 yards (individual tournament)
Tabbed as the largest collegiate golf tournament in the country, the 2020 edition of the Kiawah Island Spring Classic has expanded from 48 teams to 53 in this year's field and will be played for the sixth time in its history at Osprey Point at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort on Kiawah Island, S.C. Two courses are used for the three-day, 54-hole tournament including Oak Point. After 36 holes of play, the Top 26 teams will play for the championship at Osprey Point during the final round, while teams 27-53 will play for a flight championship at Oak Point. Sixteen individuals will compete in a separate individual tournament at Cougar Point.
Participating for the Sycamores will be seniors Sierra Hargens, Kayla Ryan and Alex Jennings along with the sophomore Lauren Green and freshman Kristen Hobbs.
"The team has worked really hard inside this winter to get ready for the spring season," Assistant Coach Sophie Benetti said. "We have seen real progress with everyone thanks to their eagerness to improve. It will be nice to get outside and let the players play. We are excited about this group's chances for the spring. We will be on the look out for the famous 10-foot gators at Kiawah!"
Lauren Green paced the Sycamores in the fall season with a 76.8 strokes per round average. Lauren recorded four Top 5 finishes in the fall tournaments, topped by a round of 72 at the Mastodon Invitational in mid-October. Sierra Hargens had one Top 5 finish and her average of 78.1 was second-best on the team. Alex Jennings and Kayla Ryan also averaged in the 70's and recorded one Top 20 finish while Kristen Hobbs played in all five tournaments with one Top 20 finish and an 81.6 strokes per round average. The Sycamores recorded a third place finish at the Butler and Mastodon Invites and look to carry the fall momentum into the spring.

The event begins on Sunday, March 1 with the Morning Wave at 8:45 a.m. (ET) and the Afternoon Wave at 1:30 p.m. (ET). Monday's second round will use the same start times and on Tuesday, March 3 everyone will begin with a shotgun start at 8:45 a.m. (ET). Live stats (9 hole scoring) will be available on GolfStat.com.
