TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Indiana State tallied a round of 301 on the second and final day of the ISU Spring Invitational en route to a fourth place finish in their home tournament. The event was held at The Country Club of Terre Haute which is set up over a par-72, 6,004-yard layout.
ISU posted a total of 301 which when coupled with a round of 307 on Sunday gave them a total of 608 which tied them with Butler for fourth place. California Baptist won the event with rounds of 291 and 287 for a total of 578. Youngstown State's rounds of 285 and 300 gave them a total of 585 which was second. Loyola -- one of five Missouri Valley Conference teams in the field -- was third with a mark of 605 while ISU and Butler were knotted at 608. The Sycamores were just ahead of a tie for sixth place between Evansville and Green Bay while Northern Iowa was eighth with a total of 617.
Jocelyn Chee Yi Minn and Erica Wang each finished with a total of 142 which tied them for medalist honors. Chee Yi Minn won the individual title on a three-hole playoff.
ISU's top finisher was senior
Thilda Staubo who posted rounds of 73 and 75 for a total of 148 and a tie for eighth place. That was just six shots off the the lead.
The highlight of the day was a hole-in-one by senior
Abigail Irwin who posted a career-best round of 74 and finished with a total of 159. Irwin's hole-in-one came on the 16th hole when she hit a shot about 15 yards past the pin and it rolled back slowly into the cup. It was the fourth "Ace" in the history of the program joining Diana Price,
Marissa Uradomo and Emily Dixon as the only Sycamores to accomplish the feat. Irwin's two round total of 159 was tied for 46th place.
Sierra Hargesn followed up her opening round of 77 with a 75 on Monday for a total of 152 and a tie for 15th place.
Sophie Benetti's mark of 78 matched her score from Monday and her total of 156 was tied for 35th place.
Kayla Ryan used rounds of 79 and 77 for a total of 156 and also tied for 35th place.
Madison Branum recorded a pair of 80's playing as an individual and her total of 160 was 49th best.
Lauren Green owned rounds of 83 and 87 for a total of 170 which tied her 71st place/
Sydney Parrish posted rounds of 89 and 88 for a total of 177 which was 75th.
Indiana State has one tournament left -- the Missouri Valley Conference Championship. The action begins on Sunday, April 14 when Valparaiso hosts the tournament at the Sand Creek Golf Club in Chesterton, Ind.
