Sycamore Golf Ready To Make Spring Debut Sunday At Kiawah Island

Colder weather is starting to give way to warmer temperatures and that means its time for the Spring portion of the Indiana State Women's Golf Schedule to commence. That happens this weekend at the 2019 Kiawah Island Spring Classic to be held over two courses in coastal South Carolina including: Osprey Point (Par 72 – 5,984 yards) and Oak Point (Par 72 – 5,977 yards).

The three-round event is slated to be held beginning on Sunday, February 24 and continue through Tuesday. Thunderstorms are in the forecast so they schedule is subject to change. Groups of two will be sent off in a shotgun start format in both a morning and afternoon wave each day.

"The tournament has 48 teams and is as close as you can get to simulating an NCAA tournament with the numbers and strength of field," head coach Greg Towne said. "Our mission this week is to get better everyday individually and collectively. We have a very short window this spring for our championship segment. There are an incredible amount of nuances to our game that can make the difference in success, our level of focus everyday will determine where we end up at the end of the year. I have a good feeling about this group and love coaching them everyday."

The 48-team field includes: Bethune Cookman, Boston University, Bucknell, Butler, Charleston Southern, Coastal Carolina, College of Charleston, Dayton, Delaware, Elon, Fairfield, Fairleigh Dickinson, Georgia Southern, Hampton, High Point, Hofstra, Indiana State, IUPUI, Jacksonville, Jacksonville State, Lehigh, Lipscomb, Longwood, Monmouth, Murray State, Navy, North Alabama, North Florida, UNC Asheville, UNCG, Omaha, Presbyterian, Quinnipiac, Richmond, Sacred Heart, SCAD Savannah, South Dakota, South Florida, Stetson, Tennessee Tech, UT Arlington, Towson, Tulsa, USC Upstate, Western Carolina, William & Mary, Wyoming and Youngstown State.

The Sycamores will start the lineup of Thilda Staubo, Sierra Hargens, Sophie Benetti, Kayla Ryan and Abigail Irwin. Kayla Ryan is on a game day decision for an injury as Lauren Green is also making the trip as a reserve.
