WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – After one day of the Purdue Invite in West Lafayette, the Sycamore Swimming and Diving team finds themselves in sixth place with 68 points.
Indiana State is currently in front of McKendree University and Illinois State University. The Trees trail Grand Canyon, Florida International, Pittsburgh, Pudue, and current leader Louisville.
Surging Sycamores
Freshman
Sarah Moreau dominated in the pool on Thursday night breaking the school record in the 500 freestyle posting a time of 4:55.43. Moreau beat her prelim time by 6.21 seconds. This swim puts her second overall in the Missouri Valley Conference.
The Sycamore 200 yard freestyle relay team of
Kaimi Matsumoto,
Alex Malmborg,
Ashleigh Sinks, and
Marlene Pavlu Lewin finished fifth overall posting a time of 1:33.67. This swim places Indiana State at the top of the conference in the 200 free relay.
Senior
Alex Malmborg posted a time of 23.56 placing thirteenth overall. This swim puts her second overall in the MVC.
Diver
Keara Shelton placed eleventh overall in the 3 meter dive with a score of 215.30.
Christensen's Corner
"We had kind of a mixed bag today, but we definitely got better as we moved through the first two sessions. Sarah breaking the school record in the 500 freestyle was definitely a highlight," head coach
Josh Christensen said. "This is a fast, competitive meet. Our goal is to just keep learning and get better with each session. I'm looking forward to seeing us take advantage of all the opportunities we have tomorrow."
