CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Senior
Ayanna Morgan placed second in the pentathlon for the Sycamores at the Illini Invitational on Friday evening. The Sycamores trail Illinois State 20-18 after one event on the women's side.

The Barbados-native started the day off with a win in the 60-meter hurdles, clocking a time of 8.56. Fellow senior
Caitlyn Redmon took fourth at 9.03, while
Mia Mackenzie and
Alexis Grider finished in fifth and sixth with times of 9.24 and 9.58, respectively.

Redmon ended up taking the top spot in the high jump of the pentathlon with a mark of 1.62m (5-03.75) while Morgan placed sixth at 1.50m (4-11.00). Continuing to impress, Redmon then took third in the shot put with a strong mark of 10.55m (34-07.50).

It was a one-two finish for the Trees in the long jump of the pentathlon, where Morgan ended up claiming her second victory with a jump of 5.52m (18-01.50) and Redmon placed second at 5.42m (17-10.75).

In the final event of the day, freshman
Alexis Grider took second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:32.07, right behind Jordyn Bruce of Illinois State.

At the conclusion of the pentathlon Morgan found herself in second with a score of 3366 and
Caitlyn Redmon placed fourth with 3228 points.

On the men's side through four events of the heptathlon, Josh Perry currently sits in fourth place with a score of 2394.

Competition resumes Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. ET with the field events, while action on the track will begin at 12:40 p.m. ET.
