SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Indiana State Swimming and Diving team is set to open 2019 this Saturday as they travel to Springfield, Ohio for a double-dual meet against the University of the Cumberlands and Wittenberg.
Series History
Saturday will be the first time that the Sycamores have met University of the Cumberlands in action. The Patriots currently own a 4-1 dual meet record and also competed at the Magnus Cup earlier this season where they placed 11th.
Indiana State and Wittenberg met once during the 2017-18 season with ISU coming out on top to take a 1-0 series lead. The Tigers enter Saturday's contest with a dual meet record of 1-5.
Sycamore Leaflets
- The Sycamores enter Saturday with a 9-0 dual meet record, the best start to a season in program history.
- During their last outing, the Trees claimed victory at the Indiana State Relay meet where they overtook Saint Louis, Illinois State, Butler, Eastern Illinois and Maryville.
- Prior to the Indiana State Relay meet, ISU earned a sixth place finish at the Magnus Cup where they defeated Delaware, Indiana University of PA, Saint France, University of the Cumberlands, Youngstown State and California University of PA.
- At the Magnus Cup, Alex Malmborg, Marlene Pavlu Lewin, Kendall Hansen and Cierra Campbell broke the school-record in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:28.10.
- Also writing her name at the top of the ISU history books was Vivian Kritikou, who finished with the best time in school history in the 1650-yard freestyle at 17:01.52.
- Freshman Anna Maria Nasiou finished with the fastest time in Sycamore history in the 100-yard breaststroke, clocking in at 1:04.42.
- Kritikou currently owns the second-best time in the Missouri Valley Conference in the 1000-yard freestyle at 10:08.74.
- Marlene Pavlu Lewin sits at second in the Valley in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:00.37.
- Nasiou and Megan Schade are second and third in the MVC in the 50-yard breaststroke with times of 30.08 and 30.18, respectively.
- Schade and Martina Marks are two-three in the conference in the 100-yard IM with times of 58.66 and 58.76.
- The 400-yard freestyle relay team from the Magnus Cup has the second-best time in the MVC. ISU also has the second-best time in the Valley in the 800-yard freestyle relay.
- Competition is set to begin at 2 p.m. ET on Saturday in Springfield, Ohio.
