Sierra Hargens Paces Sycamores On Day 1 Of Cardinal Classic


YORKTOWN, Ind. -- Indiana State received low rounds of 75 from both Sierra Hargens and Thilda Staubo and the Sycamores are tied for 10th place in a tough 16-team field at the Ball State Cardinal Classic. The event is being held at The Players Club, which is a par-72, 6,204-yard layout.

The Sycamores owned solid rounds of 312 in the morning and came back with a score of 309 in the evening, Through four rounds of play so far this year, the Sycamores' have put together two rounds of 309 which represents their season best. ISU also had a 309 in the second round at the Roseann Schwartz Invitational.

Sierra Hargens, who finished second at this summer's Indiana Open on this course, posted rounds of 75 and 78 in the heat of the day for a total of 153 which is tied for 25th place. Thilda Staubo recorded a round of 79 in the morning and came back in the afternoon with her round of 75 for a total of 154 which is tied for 29th place.

Kayla Ryan continues her great play as she had rounds of 79 and 76 for a total of 155 and a tie for 33rd place. Ryan's 76 is tied with her mark two weeks ago in Youngstown State for her career-best. Abigail Irwin posted a 79 in the morning and then an 80 in the afternoon for a total of 159 she is in 56th place. It was her third career round of 79 -- a career best.

Freshman Lauren England posted rounds of 84 and 83 for a total of 167 which is tied for 77th place. 

The Sycamores total of 621 is tied for 10th place with Ohio. Illinois State's total of 623 is two strokes behind the Sycamores in 12th place while Evansville's score of 641 is 15th. Defending champion Indianapolis leads with a score of 574. Host Ball State is in second with a tally of 594 while Bradley's card of 601 is third. The Sycamores will look to chase down Cleveland State who is three strokes ahead of ISU with a score of 618 in ninth while Dayton's 614 is eighth.
