Sycamore Soccer Honored At Scholar-Athlete Banquet

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Indiana State women's soccer team received numerous awards during the 2016 Sycamore Scholar-Athlete Banquet held on Monday (April 11) on campus.

 

Presenters included SAAC President women's soccer senior Molly McKee, Indiana State President Dr. Daniel J. Bradley, Director of Athletics Sherard Clinkscales, Associate Vice President of Development Phil Ness, Senior Woman Administrator Angie Lansing and Assistant Athletics Director of Compliance Joel McMullen among others. 

 

The Indiana State women's soccer team received the Sycamore Cup as well as the Sycamore Team Service Award. The Sycamore Cup is presented annually to the team that shows a devotion to success in all aspects of life through community service, school spirit, academic achievement and leadership on campus. The Sycamore Team Service Award goes to the team that has made serving the community an integral part of their goals and activities during the current academic year.

 

Sydney Lovelace was named the female recipient of the Presidential Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award. She was joined in taking the honor by Connor Curley of the men's track & field team. The Presidential Scholar-Athlete of the Year is the most prestigious award presented annually and recognizes athletic accomplishments, academic achievements, qualities of leadership and service to the university and community. This award also distinguishes an individual who will use the experiences of collegiate athletics participation to make a positive contribution to their profession and the community.

 

Lovelace, who maintains a 3.97 grade point average in athletic training, was also named to the Sycamore Athletics All-Academic Team. This honor recognizes the student-athletes who demonstrate continued commitment to the essential balance between academic and athletic achievement. The winners of this award obtained the highest cumulative grade point average on their respective teams with at least 62 credit hours and have attended Indiana State for at least two full semesters.

 

Several members of the Indiana State women's soccer team were named Sycamore Scholar-Athletes. This award honors those student-athletes who have achieved excellence in the classroom and on the playing field while maintaining at least 3.0 grade point average in each of the last two semesters at Indiana State.

 

Those honored from the soccer program include: Elaina Freesmeier, Kate Johnson, Sydney Loesing, Sydney Lovelace, Molly Mckee, Madeline Orf, Maggie RichardBrittany San RomanCasidy Simonis, Elle Steele, Gaelen Stejback, Kylie Sumner, Kasey Wallace and Alexandria Whittington.
