ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Indiana State redshirt freshman Avery Oergel has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Week following her milestone performance in the Sycamores' match at Northern Iowa.
After overcoming an injury, Oergel scored her first collegiate goal in Indiana State's 3-3 draw against the Panthers on September 20, finishing with a career-high two points in 70 minutes of action. The Fulton, Md. native was highly efficient in front of the goal, putting both of her shot attempts on frame and converting one to help the Sycamores secure a point on the road in MVC play.
Through eight appearances and seven starts this season, Oergel has logged 465 minutes, recorded five shots — all on target for a perfect 1.000 shots-on-goal percentage — and totaled two points. Her breakthrough goal against UNI highlighted her growing role in Indiana State's attack and marked an important early milestone in her debut season.
This recognition marks Oergel's first career MVC weekly honor and continues Indiana State's strong presence in the Valley's weekly awards during the 2025 campaign.
