Joel McMullen

Joel McMullen joined the Indiana State University athletics department staff as the Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance in August 2007 and was promoted to Associate Athletic Director in January 2021. McMullen's primary responsibility is to ensure compliance with all Indiana State, Missouri Valley Conference, NCAA rules and regulations through a combination of education, policy implementation, monitoring, and enforcement. 
 
His office serves as a direct liaison between Athletics, Hulman Center Ticket Office, Financial Aid, Registrar, Admissions, Athletic Training, Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Faculty Athletic Representative, boosters, and fundraising entities on and off-campus.

Prior to his arrival at Indiana State, McMullen served as the compliance officer and was the head men’s and women’s cross country coach at Division II Eastern New Mexico University from 2004-2007.  He also hosted the weekly television coaches’ show and performed various other functions.

From 2003-04, McMullen worked in the Oklahoma State University compliance office assisting with various aspects of the intercollegiate program.

McMullen obtained his Associate’s degree from Barton County Community College, his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Kansas and his Juris Doctorate from Washburn University.  During his high school and college years, he was a cross country and track student-athlete.

He and his wife, Ina, married in 1984 and have two grown sons, Austen and Ian.
