Indiana State Rolls Past Evansville, 3-0

Box Score

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Indiana State volleyball ended a three-match losing skid Friday night, defeating in-state rival Evansville, 3-0 (25-14, 25-22, 25-20) inside the ISU Arena.

Senior Bree Spangler led the way for the Sycamores with a match high 12 kills on the night. The Coldwater, Michigan native also played well on the defensive side, accounting for seven digs and a block.

The Sycamores (10-15, 4-9 MVC) outhit Evansville .188 to .090 during the match. It marked the first time in four matches that ISU held an opponent to under .100 hitting.

Evansville jumped out to an early lead in set one, but midway through the Sycamores got things rolling, going on a 10-3 run to take control. The Aces (5-22, 1-13 MVC) did not have an answer for Spangler in the first set as she slammed down four kills while fellow Sycamore Cassie Kawa went for two kills during the run.

The Aces kept the second set much more competitive, only committing four errors. That was not enough though, as ISU recorded its best attacking percentage of the night as Spangler and Kawa each tallied four kills.

After the Sycamores picked up the first point in set three, Evansville reeled off five straight to take the lead. That was when the Aces shot themselves in the foot once more with four attacking errors in the next five serves. Two kills from Bree Spangler to put the Sycamores on top 11-10 sparked ISU's offense and Indiana State did not look back, taking the set 25-20.

Indiana State was strong again at the net, recording eight blocks on the night led by Kawa who had five. Makenzie Macek finished with three.

Evansville was led by Mildrelis Rodriguez who had 10 kills to go along with 13 digs for a double-double for the Aces.

The Sycamores are back in action Saturday night as they host Southern Illinois beginning at 7 p.m. inside the ISU Arena.
