PEKIN, Ill. – Senior McCall Christopher shares the first round lead and the Sycamores are just two shots off the team lead after the first round of the Bradley Spring Invitational concluded today at the Pekin Country Club.
The tournament, sponsored by Bradley University, was originally scheduled to be played at WeaverRidge Golf Course in Peoria but the venue had to be changed due to the recent wet weather. The final round of the tournament will be played on Sunday starting at 9:30 a.m. (ET)
Christopher came in with a career low 18-hole round of one-over par 73 on the 6,110 yard course to share the lead with Butler's Jenna Peters and Evansville's Kayla Katterhenry who won the Saluki Invitational a week ago.
Indiana State's Amanda Smith finished the first round tied for 10th with a 77 while Erinn Sutton and Gina Della Camera are tied for 20th with a round of 79. Andrea Frankiewicz is tied for 28th after shooting an opening round 80. Della Camera and Frankiewicz both had career low rounds.
Butler leads the team race with a 306 total which is just two shots better than Indiana State who finished the first round at 308. The race for the team title is close with Southern Illinois currently third with a 309, Loyola fourth at 310, and the University of Northern Iowa fifth at 311. Northern Illinois is currently sixth (314), Evansville seventh (315), Bradley eighth (319), Western Illinois ninth (326), and Illinois-Chicago 10th (338).
