COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Indiana State freshman Marissa Uradomo became just the second Sycamore women's golfer to capture a tournament title and the first in her initial season of collegiate competition as she won took medalist honors at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate Tuesday.
“We had a good effort today,” Greg Towne, Indiana State women's golf coach, said. “We got better each day which is what we had hoped for. The weather still did not give us a chance to hit the way we wanted but we did finally get a couple of rounds under our belt. To finish that high against teams that have already played in tournaments this spring is nice.”
Uradomo carded back-to-back 74s to finish the 36-hole tournament with a 148 and a winner by one shots over first round leader Delaney Howson of Murray State. Howson opened with a 70 but backed up in today's second round with a 79 to finish at 149. Uradomo entered the final round tied for second.
Senior McCall Christopher added another top 10 finish to her career as she tied for fifth with a 153 total after rounds of 77 and 76. Christopher was tied for eighth after the first round. Junior Amanda Smith finished in a tie for 22nd with a 151 total while junior Erinn Sutton tied for 52nd with a 170 total and junior Andrea Frankiewicz tied for 61st with a 178 total.
Eastern Kentucky took the team title at 625 with Evansville second at 629 and Indiana State tied with Marshall for third at 631. The rest of the field had Murray State fifth (633) followed by Belmont (641), Austin Peay and West Georgia (643), Tennessee Tech (652), Presbyterian College (657), Northern Kentucky (665), Tennessee State (711) and Northern Kentucky Black (712).
Former Sycamore Breanne Smith was the first Indiana State women's golfer to win a tournament title as she claimed the 2010 Snowbird Intercollegiate with a 153 total.
Indiana State will have a week before resuming their spring season by playing in the Saluki Invitational.
“We will get in a good week of practice and give it a go against a good field at SIU,” Towne said.
The tournament was played on the par-71 Highlands Course in Sevierville, Tenn.
