COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Freshman Marissa Uradomo and senior McCall Christopher finished the opening round of the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate in the top 10 while the Sycamore team is currently in fifth place, just five shots out of the lead heading into the second and final round of the second annual Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate hosted by Tennessee Tech University.
Uradomo fired a 74 through the first 18-holes of the 36-hole tournament and is currently tied for second with Rachel Thompson of Marshall University. Murray State's Delaney Howson leads the field after shooting a 70 in the opening round.
Christopher is just a couple shots back as she is tied for eighth after shooting a 77 in the Monday's opening round. Junior Amanda Smith is tied for 30th after shooting an 83 while Andrea Frankiewicz is tied for 49th after an opening round 86, and Erinn Sutton is tied for 54th after an 87 on Monday.
“I knew it would be an extremely difficult day with the rain and course conditions,” Greg Towne, Indiana State golf coach, said. “We gave a great effort for our first time out. I have a good feeling about tomorrow because the kids have a great attitude just for the chance to play.”
Murray State leads the field (315) with Marshall second (317), Eastern Kentucky third (318), West Georgia fourth (319), Indiana State fifth (320).
“To be only five shots back is nothing on this course and it is fun to be in the mix,” Towne said.
Round out the field is Belmont (323), Evansville (323), Austin Peay (327), Presbyterian (327), Tennessee Tech (329), Northern Kentucky (334), Tennessee State (355), and Northern Kentucky Black (367).
The tournament is being played on the par-71 Highlands Course in Sevierville, Tenn. Spanning 6,372 yards, the course features four par-5 and six par-3 holes.
