CHICAGO – The Indiana State women's golf team broke the school record for team low 18-hole round as they battled their way to a second place finish at the 2013 Chicago State University Cougar Golf Classic today on the Starboard Course at Harborside International.

“The story of the day was Erinn Sutton who shot a 74 from the fifth position,” Greg Towne, Indiana State women's golf coach, said. “Amanda (Smith) went to the range after the first round and improved her score by 11 shots from the day before.”

The Sycamores entered the final day tied for fourth after an opening round of 315 on Monday. Indiana State came through with the low round of the day as they combined for a 297 total to come within three shots of defending their title.

Chicago State held on to take the team title away from Indiana State with a two-day total of 609 while Indiana State was second at 612. Detroit finished third (617) with Cleveland State fourth (622), Texas-Pan American fifth (632), Loyola sixth (635), Northern Illinois seventh (638), IPFW eighth (641), Dayton ninth (648), Creighton 10th (649), Illinois-Chicago 11th (650), Eastern Illinois 12th (655), and Green Bay 13th (662).

The 297 total also breaks the mark for team low second round score which was at 301 and accomplished twice during the 2011-2012 season (IU Fall Kickoff and Butler Fall Invitational). The 612 36-hole total is also the third best in school history after a 601 at the Butler Fall Invitational and a 611 at the IU Fall Kickoff both posted during the 2011-2012 season.
