TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Indiana State head basketball coach Greg Lansing announced today (April 17) that Alex Etherington has inked a national letter of intent on the first day of the signing period and will join the program in time for the 2013-14 campaign.

"We could not be more excited about welcoming Alex Etherington into the Sycamore basketball family," head coach Greg Lansing said. "He comes from a great high school program at Hamilton Heights and has been very well coached and prepared for the college level. We are very fortunate to get a player of this caliber late in the school year but that is a credit to coach Lou Gudino who recruited Alex and made this great addition during the late signing period."

Etherington is a 6-6, 190 small forward from Cicero, Ind., and recently completed his senior season at Hamilton Heights High School. He participated in the North vs. South All-Star Game this past weekend in Terre Haute and scored 12 points for the victorious North team.

"Alex is a player who will come in ready to compete from day one," Lansing said. "He is a big time athlete. He has great strength and is an explosive type athlete. Alex has the ability to score in a variety of ways. He is going to be a really good player for us."

At Hamilton Heights, he played for head coach Chad Ballenger and completed his career with 1,204 career points scored and was named to the Hoosier Basketball Magazine All-State First Team. As a senior, Etherington averaged 18 points, 6.1 rebounds and three assists per game while his team won a sectional championship as well as the Mid-Indiana Conference crown. Etherington was also a member of a Hamilton Heights team which won the Holiday Classic.

As a junior, Etherington tallied 22 points and seven rebounds per game and was named to the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association Top 100 Underclassman list and was a third team all-state selection. Additionally, he was named to the All-Mid-Indiana Conference Team.

In 2010-11, Etherington averaged 14 points and four rebounds per game and was an all-conference selection.

Etherington will join Brenton Scott of Fort Wayne Northrop on the Sycamore roster next season.
