INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Indiana State women's golf team equaled their best showing at the Butler Fall Invitational and junior Amanda Smith finished fourth for the second straight year as competition in the 36-hole tournament came to an end today (Tuesday) at Highlands Golf & Country Club.
The Sycamores opened the day in third place after posting a 314 in Monday's first round and came back with a 312 in today's second round to finish with a 626 total. Purdue won the team title with a 595 team total while Butler was second at 623. Evansville moved up to fourth on the final day (640) with Loyola fifth (645), Eastern Illinois sixth (661), IUPUI seventh (675), and Green Bay, Illinois-Chicago, and Valparaiso tied for eighth (685).
Indiana State junior Amanda Smith followed up Monday's 75 by carding another 75 in the final round today to finish just eight shots off the lead with a 36-hole total of 150. The total was Smith's career best at Indiana State for a 36-hole tournament as she has now carded five of six rounds this season in the 70s. The fourth place finish was also her second straight top 10 finish.
Three other Sycamores finished in the top 20 with senior McCall Christopher finishing tied for 13th with a 159 total. Christopher shot a 77 in Monday's opening round but backed up a bit today with an 82. It was her best finish at the Butler Fall Invitational since she tied for seventh as a sophomore.
Freshmen Marissa Uradomo and Megan Berube tied for 16th as each carded a 160 total for the tournament. Uradomo opened the tournament with an 86 Monday but found her groove today with a career low round of 74. Berube, who was playing as an individual, shot an 83 in the first round and came back with a 77 today.
Also competing for Indiana State was junior Erinn Sutton who tied for 24th after carding a pair of 81s in the two rounds for a 167 total and Andrea Frankiewicz who tied for 26th with rounds of 81 and 82 for a career low total of 163.
Purdue's Aurora Kan took medalist honors after shooting 71 in both rounds for a two-over par 142. Boilermaker teammate Brooke Beegle finished second with rounds of 71 and 73 for a 144 total while Butler's Jenna Peters was third at 148 with rounds of 73 and 75.
The Sycamores will be back in action next week as they compete in the 2013 Rocket Classic which will be played at Catawba Island Club in Port Clinton, Ohio, on Monday and Tuesday.
