EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Indiana State women's golf team concluded their fall campaign today by tying for sixth at the 2013 Charles Braun Junior Intercollegiate with freshman Marissa Uradomo posting her second straight top five finish as she placed fourth in the individual competition.
“We played really soft today and got beat by every Valley team,” Greg Towne, Indiana State women's golf coach, said. “Even though it was only a shot or two, it is exactly how the MVC will be this spring. We seem to be happy shooting mid 70s even though our skill level is better than that.”
Uradomo shot a career low 71 to finish second in the opening round Monday, and was second heading into today's final round. The freshman carded a 74 in today's round and finished with a career low 36 hole score of 145 and fourth overall.
“Marissa had a nice fall and a good tournament,” Towne said. “She is a pretty happy person and plays like one. She is a joy to coach.”
This was the second straight top five finish for the Sycamore freshman and the third top 10 finish in five starts. She also has four top 20 finishes this season. Uradomo tied for fifth at the Rocket Classic two weeks ago in her first 54-hole tournament.
Junior Amanda Smith tied for 24th with rounds of 74 and 78 for a 152 total while junior Erinn Sutton tied for 28th with rounds of 79 and 74 for a 153 total. Senior McCall Christopher tied for 34th with rounds of 76 and 78 for a 154 total while junior Andrea Frankiewicz tied for 66th with rounds of 81 and 84 for a 165 total.
“I was able to play a lot of different lineups this fall but I am still not sure who is going to step it up and represent us next spring,” Towne said.
Loyola University Chicago won the team title with rounds of 299 and 288 for a 587 total. Lipscomb University finished second (295-300=595) with Northern Iowa third (301-298=599), Wichita State fourth (298-304=602), and Evansville fifth (298-305=603). Indiana State (300-304=604) and Valparaiso (301-303=604) tied for sixth.
Lipscomb's Miriam Parker, Loyola Chicago's Logan Willis, and Northern Iowa's Sarah Boss shared medalist honors as each finished at two-over 144.
Indiana State will begin their winter workouts next week as they prepare for the spring season which will begin March 3-4 at the Time Warner Racer Classic in Murray, Ky.
