EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Freshman Marissa Uradomo fired an ever par 71 and holds second place after the first round of the Charles Braun Intercollegiate which is being played at Quail Crossing Golf Club in Boonville, Ind. The tournament is being hosted by the University of Evansville. The Sycamores are in fifth with an opening round score of 300.
Lipscomb University has the first round lead with a 295 total while Evansville and Wichita State share second (298), Loyola is fourth (299) and Indiana State fifth (300). Rounding out the field are Valparaiso and Northern Iowa who share sixth (301) with Dayton eighth (304), SIU Edwardsville ninth (306), Butler 10th (308), IUPUI 11th (309), Southern Indiana 12th (313), Northern Kentucky 13th (318), and Tennessee State 14th (344).
“This is a close meet,” Greg Towne, Indiana State women's golf coach, said. “The scores were good under perfect weather conditions. Whoever wants to do what it takes to win tomorrow will probably take home the trophy.”
Uradomo posted her first even par round of her career with the 71 topping the freshman's previous best of 73 which she posted in the opening round of the Rocket Classic two weeks ago. Junior Amanda Smith is tied for 14th with a three-over par 74 while senior McCall Christopher is tied for 25th with a five over 76. Junior Erinn Sutton posted a 79 to share 45th while junior Andrea Frankiewicz fired an 81 and shares 60th in the 80 player field heading into the second day.
Lipscomb's Miriam Parker was one under in today's opening round to lead the field with a 70. Four players are tied for third at 72 including Dayton's Mika Suntay, Evansville's Cathy Doyle, Northern Iowa's Sarah Boss, and Wichita State's Alejandra Arellano.
The tournament wraps up Tuesday with the final 18-hole round beginning at 11 a.m. (ET).
