PORT CLINTON, Ohio – Freshman Marissa Uradomo recorded a career low for 18 holes with a 73 in the first round of the 2013 Rocket Classic, following that up with a 76 in the afternoon session for a 149 total and tied for third heading into the final round on Tuesday.
The Sycamores will enter the final round at 9 a.m. (ET) Tuesday tied for second as Indiana State had a 309 total after the first round which put them in third and followed with a 313 in the afternoon session for a 622 total and tied for second.
“This is truly the toughest course we have played,” Greg Towne, Indiana State women's golf coach, said. “Marissa brought it today. Tomorrow will be another wind switch so we will see how that affects play. There will be lots of opportunities for the girls tomorrow.”
Indiana State junior Erinn Sutton recorded her second best 18-hole round of her Indiana State career with a 75 in the first round which tied her for seventh overall. The junior fell back a little in the afternoon session but still finished with a 79 and a 154 total which puts her in a tie for 14th.
Senior McCall Christopher is tied for 20th after the first two rounds as she fired a 78 in each of Monday's rounds. Junior Amanda Smith is tied for 45th with a 163 total after rounds of 83 and 80 while freshman Megan Berube is tied for 58 h with rounds of 85 and 83 for a 168 total.
Host Toledo holds the team lead after the first two rounds with a 597 total on rounds of 296 and 301. Indiana State rallied late in the day to forge into a tie with Bowling Green and Chicago State for second at 622. Indiana State had rounds of 309 and 313 while Bowling Green posted rounds of 319 and 303, and Chicago State had rounds of 305 and 317.
Western Michigan is in fifth (626) with Ohio sixth (631), Youngstown State seventh (632), Akron eighth (633), Detroit ninth (638), Oakland 10th (648), Loyola 11th (652), Cleveland State 12th (659), and Dayton 13th (661).
Toledo holds the top two individual spots with Jennifer Elsholz and Sathika Ruenreong each posted a 148 total after the first two rounds to share the lead. Just a shot back is Uradomo and Toledo's Manisa Isavas at 149 with Chicago State's Casey MacNeil in fifth at 150. MacNeil was the leader after the first round.
The tournament is being played at the Catawba Island Club at Port Clinton, Ohio. The final round will tee off at 9 a.m. (ET).
