TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Indiana State women's golf team play their fourth tournament of the fall season next week as they compete in the 2013 Rocket Classic hosted by the University of Toledo. The 54-hole competition will be played at Catawba Island Club in Port Clinton, Ohio, Monday and Tuesday.
The Sycamores and Toledo will be joined by Akron, Bowling Green, Chicago State, Cleveland State, Dayton, Detroit, Loyola (Chicago), Oakland, Ohio, Western Michigan, and Youngstown State in the competition. This will be the second time that Indiana State has gone up against Chicago State who edged the Sycamores to win the CSU Cougar Classic in September and the third time Indiana State has seen new conference member Loyola in competition.
THE COURSE
Catawba Island Club course, designed by Arthur Hills, is a par-72 layout that will play at 5,929 yards for the tournament. It is located in Port Clinton, Ohio, on the shores of Lake Erie.
THE WEATHER
Partly to mostly cloudy skies with mild temperatures are forecasted for the Port Clinton, Ohio, area the first part of next week with a high of 70 and winds from the west at 8 mph for Sunday's practice round, a high of 63 and winds from the north-northeast at 9 mph for the first round Monday, and a high of 67 with winds from the southeast at 10 mph for the final round on Tuesday.
SYCAMORES IN THE VALLEY RANKINGS
The Indiana State women's golf team currently ranks fourth in the team standings of the Missouri Valley Conference in the rankings released Oct. 10 by Golfstat. The Sycamores have an average score of 309.33 per round through three tournaments this Fall with a score versus par of 24.00 and a low round of 297. Bradley University tops the Valley with an average score of 304.83 with a score versus par of 16.83 and a low round of 294. Missouri State is second with an average round of 308.50, a score versus par of 22.50 and a low round of 302 while Illinois State is third with an average score of 311.25, a score versus par of 23.25, and a low round of 297.
Three Sycamores are in the top 20 of the individual standings which are ranked by score versus par. Junior Amanda Smith currently ranks sixth in the Valley with a score versus par of 4.67 through three tournaments, an average score of 76.00 and a low round of 71. Freshman Marissa Uradomo and senior McCall Christopher are tied for 16th with a score versus par of 6.50 and an average of 77.83 per round. Uradomo has a low round of 74 and Christopher 75.
Junior Erinn Sutton is tied for 29th in the Valley standings with a score versus par of 8.00, an average score of 79.33 and a low round of 74. Freshman Megan Berube is tied for 43rd with a score versus par of 9.33, an average score of 80.67 and a low round of 75, junior Gina Della Camera is 63rd (12.00 score versus par, 84.00 average round, and a low round of 81), junior Andrea Frankiewicz is 70th (14.50 score versus par, average round of 85.50, and a low round of 81), and junior Margaret Harper is 77th (25.00 score versus par, 97.00 average score, and a low round of 91).
Bradley sophomore Danielle Lemek continues to lead the Valley with a score versus par of 1.50, an average score of 73.50, and a low round of 70. Bradley junior Thea Hedemann is second (3.83 score versus par, 75.83 average score, and a low round of 72) with Evansville freshman Kayla Katterhenry third (4.29 score versus par, 75.71 average score, and a low round of 70).
This week Indiana State and Loyola play at the 2013 Rocket Classic in Port Clinton, Ohio while Bradley, Drake, Missouri State, Northern Iowa, Southern Illinois and Wichita State compete in the 2013 Payne Stewart Memorial in Springfield, Mo.
