INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. –
Indiana State sophomore Amanda Smith tied her career low round as she fired a
three-over par 73 in the opening round of the Butler Invitational Monday at the
Highland Country Club and enters the final round tied for third.
The
Sycamores are within striking distance of the team battle as they carded a
season low 309 in the opening round. Bowling Green State University is in first
place with a 300 total while Bradley, IUPUI, and Eastern Illinois University
share second place as each posted a 305.
The
tournament was three hours late in starting due to frost on the course with
today's second 18-hole round cancelled. The tournament was reduced to 36 holes
with the final 18 scheduled to be played Tuesday with an 8:30 a.m. (ET) shotgun
start.
“We
were pretty rusty,” Greg Towne, Indiana State women's golf coach, said. “You
could tell that we have not been out on the course for a while. But I feel
pretty good about tomorrow.”
Sycamore
junior McCall Christopher is tied for 14th with an opening round of 77 while
senior Emily Dixon shot her fifth straight round in the 70s by carding a 79
Monday to be tied for 23rd heading into Tuesday's round.
Sophomore
Gina Della Camera is tied for 28 th with an opening round of 80 while senior
Christina Beyerl overcame some early difficulties to finish with an 84 and be
tied for 41st.
Bowling
Green's Shelby Wilson posted a 71 in the opening round to hold the overnight
lead with Bradley's Danielle Lemek in second with 72. Smith shares third with
Eastern Illinois' Emily Calhoun and Butler's Isabella Lambert.
