TERRE HAUTE, IND.  ? The Indiana State track & field team will be on the road Thursday through Saturday as they compete in the 2010 Sea Ray Relays in Knoxville, Tenn., hosted by the University of Tennessee. Not all of the Sycamores will be in competition, however, as Indiana State will use this event to rest some individuals and seek to better performances of others.

“The competition will be really good at this meet,” John McNichols, Indiana State men's track & field coach, said. “We are taking a small team as we are resting some individuals so that they will be ready for our home meet next weekend. I am looking forward to seeing how the individuals we are taking do against this level of competition.”

Action for the will begin at 7 p.m. (ET) Thursday with the women's hammer throw. Competition will be held starting at 12:15 p.m. (ET) Friday with the men's discus and continue through 8:30 p.m. (ET) with the 10,000 meter run. Saturday's action will start at 8:45 a.m. (ET) with the men's hammer throw. The final event, the 4x400 meter relay, is scheduled to start at 5:45 p.m. (ET).

One of the focuses for the men's team will be the distance races. Eric Schulz, Scott Keeney, and Craig Padgett are scheduled to compete in their first 10,000 meter run this season with Michael Disher and Albaro Escalera going in the 5,000 meters. Jeremiah Vaughan, Andrew Lepkowski, and Dustin Betz will all compete in the 1,500 meters.

“I believe that Michael Roberts is ready to run a really fast race in the hurdles,” McNichols said. “I am also anxious to see how Brandon Pounds and Lyle Nolcox do in the throws against this kind of competition.”

The Indiana State women will also have a small team in competition at the Sea Ray Relays.

“This is an extremely high caliber meet,” John Gartland, Indiana State women's track & field coach, said. “Even though we have a small group going, they are extremely competitive and I am anxious to see how they do against the competition.”

Violet Nwordu and Jaquelle Spencer will double up in the sprints for the ISU women, competing in both the 100 and 200 meters. Tori Stone will compete in both the 100 and 400 hurdles with Sarah Snapp going in the 100 hurdles and Erica Moore in the 400 hurdles.

Felisha Johnson will be competing in three field events for the Sycamores (hammer throw, discus throw, and shot put) with Kelsey Hanley competing in the hammer and discus).

Most of the individual events will be finished Saturday morning with the rest of the meet dedicated to relays.
