COLUMBIA, MO. ? The Indiana State baseball team battled cold temperatures and a Missouri Tiger team that is ranked sixth in the nation on Saturday, falling 5-1 at Taylor Stadium.
The Tigers scored a run in the bottom of the third and exploded for four runs in the fifth to take the lead for good. The Sycamores were able to come up with a run in the eighth.
After two scoreless innings, Indiana State looked like they would be able to get on the scoreboard first when they were able to load the bases with one out in the top of the third.
Sean Osborne was a hit by a pitch to open the Sycamore third and advanced to second on a Ryan Strausborger sacrifice bunt. Brian Ramirez was safe at first after striking out but reaching on a wild pitch. Chris Schmidt was hit by a pitch to load the bases but the Sycamores could not take advantage as Brady Shoemaker flied out and Nick Ciolli grounded out.
Missouri scored a run on two hits in the bottom half of the third and added four runs on three hits in the fifth.
In the eighth, Schmidt doubled and Ciolli walked to give the Sycamores another opportunity to score. Oliver pinch hit for Chavez and he came through with an RBI single through the left side that scored Schmidt. Indiana State was unable to get another run across the plate, however.
Pascual Del Real went 2-for-3 to lead the Sycamores at the plate while Schmidt had a double, and Shoemaker and Oliver each had a single.
Michael Manus started on the mound for Indiana State and went four and a third innings in picking up the loss. Manus gave up four runs on four hits while striking out four and walking five. Nathan Inman took over in the fifth and finished the game, giving up a run on three hits while striking out three and walking none.
Indiana State (1-6) and Missouri (7-2) will play a twinbill on Sunday starting at 2 p.m. (ET).
