Women?s Soccer Defeated 3-0 by Eastern Illinois University

The Indiana State University women's soccer team lost their third straight game in a row Wednesday when they traveled to Eastern Illinois University to take on the Panthers. ISU has lost the last four meetings against the Panthers, which brings the all-time series record to 6-1-1 in favor of EIU.

The Panthers made their presence known early when they got on the board in just the 10th minute of the game. Kellie Floyd put the ball in the left corner past ISU goalkeeper Rachel Rudzis for her first goal of the season. ISU took a 1-0 deficit into halftime.

The last two goals of the game were scored with less than twenty minutes to go in the second half. Floyd notched her second tally of the game and season when she was credited with a goal that deflected in off a n ISU defender in the 74th minute. Angela Ziemba finished off the scoring at the 81-minute mark when she knocked in a point blank shot past Rudzis for the 3-0 finale.

“Poor marking and a lack of urgency to clear the ball was definitely a factor in our loss tonight,” said head coach Vernon Croft. “You can't take anything away from Eastern. They outworked us and it was clear that they wanted the game more than we did.”

The Sycamores fall to 0-3 on the season. Eastern Illinois improves to 2-1. ISU returns to Indiana to face Eastern Kentucky in their home-opener Friday, Sept. 7. Game time is at 4 p.m
