ST. LOUIS - Cole Holmstrom (Bloomington, Ind.) and Marico Stinson (Memphis, Tenn.) were named to the Missouri Valley Conference All-Freshman Team, voted on by the league's head coaches, beat writers, radio play-by-play, and sports information directors.
Holmstrom was third on the Sycamores in scoring averaging 9.3 points per game while hitting 47 three-pointers. Holmstrom had a career high 20 points, including five three-pointers, in the win over Drake on December 30, 2006. Holmstrom hit five three's three different times this season.
Stinson was second on the team in scoring at 9.8 points a contest. He led ISU with 51 three's this season and was tied for third on the team in assists with 26. Stinson moved into the school record books when he went 9-10 from three point range, 14-17 from the field for 37 points in a win over Drake on December 30, 2006. The nine three's was a school record as was the percentage from three.
It is the second time that two Indiana State players have been named to the All-Freshman team. In 1985-86, Darrion Applewhite and Antonio Gillespie received the honor. Djibril Kante and Kelyn Block were named to the team in 1998-99. David Moss was named to the All-Freshman team in 2002-03 and Jay Tunnell last season.
