White Rallies To Win 5-4 Saturday; Takes ISU Baseball Fall World Series

TERRE HAUTE, IN ? Brian Oliver scored from third base on a throwing error in the bottom of the eighth inning as the White team took the 2007 Indiana State Fall World Series Classic with a 5-4 victory over the Blue Saturday at Sycamore Field.

 

The White team wins the series 2-1, winning the final two games after the Blue team took the opening contest on Thursday.

 

Both teams put a run up on the board in the second inning. Brian Jett scored in the top of the second for the Blue after reaching on an error, stealing second, going to third on a passed ball and then scoring on another throwing error.

 

The White responded in the bottom half as Sean Osborne led off with a single. A throwing error allowed him to get to third base and then score as Brady Shoemaker hit into a fielder's choice.

 

Blue regained the lead in the top of the sixth. Andrew Trepel led off with a single and advanced as Brian Riegler reached on a throwing error. Jordan Shaw-Tyler's infield single loaded the bases. An errant throw on a pick-off attempt at first allowed Trepel and Riegler to score. Cole Standridge walked to put runners at the corners and then stole second. Nick Ciolli grounded out to second to score the third Blue run of the inning.

 

The White came up with three runs in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings. Josh Williams took over on the mound for the Blue and hit four of the first five batters he faced.  Bryan Chestnut walked to force in another run for the White who then tied the score at four-all when Shoemaker hit into a fielder's choice.

 

The Blue could not score in the top of the eighth.

 

Michael Manus went five and a third innings for the White team, giving up four runs on four hits while striking out seven and walking two. Clay Kovac went two-thirds of an inning, striking out one and walking one with Andrew Woodason getting the win after throwing two scoreless innings, giving up just one hit.

 

Jeff McKinley started on the mound for the Blue team and went six innings, giving up a run on five hits while striking out none and walking two. Josh Williams was tagged with the loss in relief, giving up four runs on no hits while walking two and hitting five batters.

 

Jordan Shaw-Tyler was 3-for-4 for the Blue team with Andrew Trepel and Brian Riegler also getting one hit each. Brian Ramirez, Brian Oliver, Pascual De Real, Sean Osborne, and Andrew Woodason had a single each for the White.
