It is hard to believe, but we are already in full swing with a new academic year at Indiana State University. The start of a new school year always brings a special energy to campus, and that energy is certainly being felt throughout Sycamore Athletics.

Our student-athletes are back on campus, classes are underway, and our fall sports are ready to give our community plenty of opportunities to come together and support the Blue and White.

Football is Here!
There is nothing quite like football under the lights at Memorial Stadium, and we are excited to kick off the 2026 season this Saturday at 6 p.m. when the Sycamores welcome SEMO to Terre Haute.

This season, we have six opportunities to pack Memorial Stadium and cheer on our Sycamores. And there is an added incentive for families: kids get in free to all six home football games this season!

If you have not purchased your season tickets yet, now is the time. Bring your family, invite your friends and help us create the kind of home-field atmosphere our student-athletes deserve.

Volleyball Brings New Energy
There is also a tremendous amount of excitement surrounding Indiana State Volleyball under the leadership of Head Coach Ted Kopacz. Ted and his staff have brought a renewed energy and enthusiasm to the program, and that energy is already extending into the community.

The team has several exciting initiatives planned for the upcoming season. One of my favorites is the new $1,000 Student Scholarship Giveaway, sponsored by Sycamore Insurance Associates. At every home match, one student will have the opportunity to win a $1,000 scholarship. The initiative begins September 10 when the Sycamores host Milwaukee at ISU Arena.

The program has also created The Grove, a new student section inside ISU Arena designed to bring even more energy and excitement to volleyball matches.

I encourage all of our students, alumni, fans and community members to get behind this program. Check out the schedule, bring your family and friends, and let's make ISU Arena a difficult place for our opponents to play.

Soccer is Off to a Great Start
Our women's soccer team is already underway and has gotten off to an impressive 3-1 start through its first four matches.

Now is a great time to get out to Memorial Stadium and support our student-athletes. Soccer provides a tremendous opportunity to watch high-level college athletics in a great setting, and our team would love to see more Sycamores in the stands.

A National Spotlight is Coming to Terre Haute
Finally, we have something incredibly special on the horizon.

Indiana State and Terre Haute will once again welcome the nation's best collegiate cross country athletes to the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course for the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships on November 21.

This is so much bigger than an athletic event. It is an opportunity to showcase Indiana State University, Terre Haute and the Wabash Valley to the entire country.

Our goal is an ambitious one: over 7,000 spectators.

I believe we can get there and we would love to set the all-time attendance record for the NCAA DI Cross Country Championship.

Before the NCAA Championships, we will also host the John McNichols Invitational on September 19, plus we get the opportunity to host the Under Armour Pre-National Invitational on October 16, bringing outstanding collegiate programs from across the country to Terre Haute.

I hope you will make plans to be part of the events. Let's show the country what Terre Haute and Indiana State can do when we come together.

There is a lot happening across Sycamore Athletics, and none of it is possible without you.

Our student-athletes represent Indiana State every day, and they feel the difference when our community shows up for them. Whether it is a Saturday at Memorial Stadium, a volleyball match inside ISU Arena, a soccer match or a national championship event at LaVern Gibson, your presence matters.

So, as we begin another academic year, I ask you to do one thing, show up and support our Sycamore student athletes!

Buy tickets, bring your family,  invite a friend, wear your Sycamore blue, cheer loudly and help us make 2026-27 a year that our student-athletes, university and community will remember.
