TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State hits the road this weekend as the Sycamores continue Missouri Valley play at Johnny Reagan Field and Murray State University for a matchup between two of the teams tied atop the Valley standings with two weeks to play in the regular season.
The Sycamores (26-22, 12-6) and Racers (27-22, 12-6) are in a three-way tie with UIC (20-25-1, 12-6) atop the conference leaderboard with six MVC games to play. Indiana State holds the 2-1 edge over UIC courtesy of the Sycamores' series win over the Flames over April 2-4, while UIC swept the Racers in a three-game series in Chicago over April 10-12.
The Friday and Saturday contests are set for a 6 p.m. ET start, while Sunday's series finale will feature a 2 p.m. ET first pitch. All three games are expected to be carried live on ESPN+ and 105.5 The Legend.
Season Spotlight
- The Indiana State offense features a variety of players sitting among the tops in the Missouri Valley in multiple offensive categories heading into the weekend competition.
- Mason Roell (.362) is currently third in the Valley in batting average and third in on-base percentage (.474), while posting 18 extra-base hits over 36 games played.
- Carter Beck continues to lead the Valley in RBIs with 48 and runs scored with 52, while sitting third in the conference in home runs (11) and second in total extra-base hits (30).
- The Sycamores have four athletes in the top six in runs batted in with Carter Beck (48), Nick Sutherlin (47), and Caden Miller (43) among the Valley leaders.
- Emil Estrella is also among the tops in the conference sitting third overall with 17 stolen bases.
- Pitchers Carson Seeman and Ty Brooks are both among the Valley's leaders in wins on the mound with Seeman second overall with a 7-0 record, while Brooks is tied for third with a 5-3 mark on the bump.
- Ty Brooks remains in the top 10 in the conference overall in ERA with a 3.99 mark over 65.1 innings pitched.
- Jack Armstrong and Colby Morse are both tied for sixth in the conference overall with three saves apiece.
- The Sycamores lead the Missouri Valley in a number of team offensive categories including doubles (107), scoring (7.6 runs per game), slugging percentage (0.473), home runs (60), extra-base hits (181), walks (228), and defensive double plays (43)
- Overall, the Sycamores' pitching staff have pitched a Valley-high 424.2 innings on the year resulting in a 6.08 ERA with a 373:258 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
- Seven different Sycamore pitchers have made at least 15 appearances on the mound this season.
Sycamores in Valley Play
- The Indiana State offense remains the standard in the Missouri Valley this season with a .327 batting average with the team second in the league in doubles (43), while leading the conference with 29 home runs and 77 extra-base hits.
- The Sycamores have added a league-high 155 runs scored, while sitting second overall with 28 stolen bases.
- On the mound, Indiana State is second overall in the conference in team ERA (4.35) over 155.0 innings sitting sixth in total strikeouts (133).
- The Sycamores have three players inside the top 10 in batting average in conference play including Mason Roell (.400), Carter Beck (.372), and Colin Sander (.348).
- Mason Roell is tied for the Valley home run lead with seven homers in conference play, while Carter Beck sits tied for third with six overall. Beck continues to lead the Valley with 24 RBIs in conference games.
- Nick Sutherlin is tied for the conference lead with nine doubles in Valley play.
- Carter Beck also leads the MVC in total runs scored in conference competition with 22 on the year.
- Emil Estrella is first in the conference with seven stolen bases, while Nomar Garcia is tied for the third with six steals on the year.
- The Indiana State pitching rotation features two of the top arms in the Missouri Valley with Spencer Johnsen (1-0, 0.50 ERA) and Ryan Karst (2-0, 2.17 ERA) both sitting inside the top three in the conference in ERA.
- Spencer Johnsen is currently fifth in the Valley in strikeouts per nine innings at 10.50, while Ryan Karst is fourth overall in WHIP (1.03)
- Carson Seeman is currently tied for first in the conference in wins in Valley play with a 4-0 record over five appearances and 15.0 innings pitched. The right-handed reliever has posted an 18:2 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
Series History Against Murray State
- Indiana State holds the 17-6 all-time edge over Murray State dating back to the inaugural contest back in the 1992 season.
- Since Murray State joined the Missouri Valley in 2023, the Sycamores hold the 5-4 all-time series edge over the Racers, including taking two of three in their last matchup at Johnny Reagan Field back in 2024.
- The Sycamores have won six of the last 10 contests in the series dating back to the 2023 season, while Murray topped Indiana State twice last year in Terre Haute for their first series win over the Sycamores.
- Over the series history, Indiana State posted a seven-game winning streak and won 11 of 12 contests from 1999-2007 against the Racers.

- Murray State was selected as the preseason favorites in the Missouri Valley Conference receiving seven first-place votes and 74 total points in the poll.
- The Racers were picked the favorites after winning both the 2025 MVC regular season and conference tournament en route to the program's first appearance at the Men's College World Series.
- Murray State has picked up series sweeps over Valparaiso, Bradley, and Illinois State, while adding a series win over Southern Illinois in Valley play. The Racers were swept by UIC and dropped the weekend series to Belmont at the beginning of April.
