TERRE HAUTE, Ind.- Indiana State hits the road for a midweek matchup on Tuesday as the Sycamores travel to Champaign to face Illinois at Eichelberger Field. ISU enters the contest with confidence after a strong week that included a 2–1 road win at Murray State and competitive performances throughout a three-game stretch.
The Sycamores opened their weekend series in Murray with one of their most complete outings of the season, earning a 2–1 victory behind a dominant complete game from Lauren Sackett. The senior right-hander scattered seven hits, allowed just one run, and struck out five while stranding 10 Racers on base. Offensively, freshman Addie Burns continued her breakout stretch, delivering the decisive swing with a two-run homer in the third inning. Burns finished the week 4-for-8 with five RBI, two home runs, and a double across games against Ball State and Murray State.
Indiana State also saw strong contributions from Morgan Goodrich, who opened Game 2 of Friday's doubleheader with an inside-the-park home run, and from Madison Poulson and Lauren Marsicek, who each added key hits to help generate scoring opportunities. Defensively, the Sycamores were sharp throughout the weekend, committing zero errors across both games at Murray State and continuing to limit extra-base damage.
Illinois returns home after a Big Ten series against Maryland, where the Illini went L–W–L in a competitive three-game set. Illinois has shown the ability to score in bunches this season, posting multiple double-digit run totals, and features a lineup with speed at the top and power threats in the middle. For Indiana State, the midweek contest provides another opportunity to build on its recent offensive rhythm and carry forward the consistency shown on the mound and defensively. The Sycamores have scored early in three of their last four games and continue to get meaningful production from both veteran leaders and emerging freshmen.
First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET at Eichelberger Field.
